I think this set is my favorite of this month's releases. On my first to examples I used beads in the centers of the flowers, on my last card, a flower pot pocket card, I used the bigger bloom layered with the smaller bloom on top and in the very center I put a quilled rose.

For my Panda card I decided to make his head wiggle. I made a spring, using a circle punch and a wire wrapped around the handle of a paint brush. The background was done doing faux silk technique. I used MFP set called Be Virtuous ,  I stamped the bamboo and the sentiments with black stazon onto white tissue paper. I then ink spray smashed the tissue paper. I placed it over a page from my encyclopedia. I used a page about the Metropolitan Opera. I think it makes a great background for my Panda.

I printed Matthew 2:1-12 onto dp and then stamped the wisemen, the sentiment and the star. A very CAS card for me. I think it will be great when it comes time to mailing my Christmas cards. My cards are usually so bulky that I spend several dollars just mailing them.

I took the sentiments from this set plus two more from the sets released this month, to make a word block. I used the stencil I shared yesterday. I used white acrylic paint. My card also has drywall tape, rhinestone, a paper doily and a ribbon. This week has had me thinking about being a thankful person. I like doing things for my family. I look cooking and fixing them dinner. What I don't like is when they start taking me for granted, and just expect me to do it for them. It made me think about all the things that God does for me in my life, and how he must feel when I don't say thank you and just expect and even demand that he do them for me. God give me a thankful heart because you have blessed me beyond what I deserve. I know you do it because you love me,

Stencil from a frozen dinner

The challenge at SCS today was to make your own stencil, not used a store bought one. Well, I think mine should count even though I didn't MAKE it. I don't usually buy frozen dinners for my family, but last week I was kinda crunched for time, so I bought a frozen dinner that steamed the frozen vegetables. When I was done cooking the meal, I looked at the package that it was in. I thought it would be neat to craft with. I used white on pale yellow that matched my dp. I took a photo of the medallion so you could see how the homemade stencil looked. It is on my card but with the other elements it is kinda hard to see. I used this week's mojo sketch. Unfortunately I needed a sympathy card for some friends.

5 challenge - sneak peek

This is a combination of 5 of this week's SCS challenges.
I started with today's F4A189 Autumn Textures Challenge
I first off thought of burlap and this new MFP image that will be release next week called FALL APPLES. I added texture also with the paper doily, the embossing and I put drywall tape on the little squares. I then decided to use the SC456. I had an extra bow that I made yesterday for the WT447 ribbon challenge that I thought would work with this card. The MIX36 challenge was a free for all as long as you used 2 or more mediums. I used markers on the apples. I also used prisma colored pencils. I used acrylic paints, gold on the embossed brown paper bag and cream on the white washed apples which brings me to the last challenge although not quite the faux White washed, because I did white wash it but it was inspired by the TLC449 challenge.

A huge bloom deserves a huge bow

This is a sneak peak at probably one of my new favorite MFP sets. It is called HUGE BLOOMS. The big flower is about 4" by 2". It is going to be released next week during our blog hop.  I water colored the flowers and added assorted glass beads to the centers. The WT447 challenge was to use ribbons. I am not very good at bows. I had to go looking for inspiration. Cheryl Walker has so many beautiful cards with bows on her blog. My card is another accordion card.

Forever Thankful- Remake card 1

Yesterday, I went back and looked at a card I made Sept 22, 2010.
That is this card here with the blue base floral panels and pumpkins. It was a nice card, but I was thinking how I would redo it to make it look better. On my old card the paper was pretty, but the pumpkins didn't stand out from the paper. The sentiment was kinda hard to read on the paper as well. The blue background was nice but it didn't really add much too the card. It also felt a little "flat" there wasn't much texture.
So for the changes to the card I started yesterday and finished today. I took the same pumpkin image and colored it in a very similar way. I tried to focus on shading, especially for the leaf. I replaced the panel behind the pumpkins with burlap. Not only does it make the pumpkins stand out more, it adds texture. The two horizontal panels, I used the same dp. The black matting really defines the panels. I added texture to those panels by embossing them. I also took gold acrylic paint and rubbed it over the raised letters. The dp that I used was 2 sided, so for the sentiment I used the back side. The plaid behind the sentiment makes it much easier to read, at least I think so. I added 3 little brads in the corner for interest and to kinda balance the design. On my first card I left the edges rough and distressed, but for this card I took a black marker and went around the edges of the dp with a black marker to give it a crisp look. The sewing also added some texture. I really like how this remake turned out.

Development of a card

Yesterday I started a card. It was for the SCS TLC449 to do a faux white wash. I was trying to combine it with MOJO313. It should have been a fairly simple and easy card to make, but it wasn't. I liked the look of the circle card and I thought it would be fun to make an accordion card. I got the front done and then added the "GET WELL SOON" sentiment and punched daisies to match the daisies on the front.

I really didn't like how the punched daisies looked with the front of the card.
Fortunately Accordion cards are easy to disassemble. I added another white washed flower,
a black eyed susan and I added a golden daisy dp. The card should be done now right? Well it still felt like something was missing. .

That is when I took a look at the SCS CC446. I noticed that I had the colors on my card except for the Cajun Craze. So I added my butterfly painted as close to that color that I could.
Finally my card was done and I liked it.
I didn't get the dessert because I didn't have a bow, but I did use ribbon, so maybe that was a light dessert...less calories.

Birthday card for Cheryl

Sometimes I will start a card and not really have any
idea where it is going to take me. I had printed these
digital leaves the other day, and I had been wanting to
watercolor them. The SCS MIX35  challenge was to
use tissue paper. I started with white tissue paper. I
used ink spray smash technique to dye it different
shades of blue and purple and green.
I messed up when gluing the tissue paper down,
so I tried to salvage the tissue paper and ended up
with 4 little squares. It kinda reminded me of
a stained glass window in a country church.
I placed the leaves in a swag. I made it into
an easel card.  The leaves are from

dandelions

Same focal image and same designer papers, but two totally different looks. The black matting on the first one really makes it stand out and the white matting on the second one gives it a softer dreamy look. I stamped the dandelion from Mark's Finest Papers Nature's Brushstrokes mini stamp set. I used a gray marker to do the flower part and a green marker to ink up the leaves. After I stamped it, I used the end of my paint brush to add the dots. I used 3 different shades of acrylic paint. I used white, ivory and cream. I think the 3 colors gives it more depth than if I had done just plain white dots. After the paint dried I added glue and glamour dust. I tried to take close up photos of the flowers to give you a glimpse of their sparkliness but the camera just doesn't do it justice. One card is for my daughter who just got a promotion at work and the other is for a good friend who lost her father in law yesterday.
These card are for the color challenge at Splitcoast Stampers CC445. I am also going to enter them in the Word Art Wednesday challenge.WAW98

Don't worry if it takes a little longer to finish a card

Sometimes I can make a card in a few minutes. Sometimes I can make a card in a couple of hours, and then sometimes it takes days for a card to come together. This card was one of them. I had these scraps of designer paper on my desk. I don't usually use a lot of designer paper because I think it looks too busy together So using all of these different papers (9 to be exact) was a big step out of my comfort zone.I started this card on Wednesday.  The card was laid out using Splitcoast Stampers Sketch 454. It was a simple sketch with two horizontal panels one wide and one thin. It also had two tilted panels. If you look those elements are there, I just added some extra strips of dp underneath them. I was already to call it done and assemble, but it just didn't feel complete. I fiddled around with it and finally set it aside to come back to it later. Ok, Thursday came around and the Splitcoast Stampers Ways to Use it challenge to have a pocket on your card came. I thought, I can make this card a pocket card. I tried to figure out a way to have the pocket be the red panel under the butterfly, but it just wasn't working. I wanted the pocket to be able to hold a tea bag. So after a lot of fiddling, and it still not feeling "right" I set it aside again. Friday, today came with the Splitcoast Stampers Mixability Challenge 34 to use 2 different types of paint. I had already water colored the butterfly before I cut him out. so I added acrylic paints to the card. I know a lot of people are intimidated with adding paint to their cards. It doesn't have to be hard or even "artsy" it can be like I did. I put the paint on with the handle of my paint brush. Dots really add interest to the card. It finally felt complete. After 3 days I would hope so.

I made a pouch that the tea bag fits inside. That pouch then fit in the pocket.
