Coffee

I had this card in my mind all day. Sometimes things work and sometimes they don't. I was going for this week's Mojo sketch. but when I got to working, I realized that I needed to make my 3 little banners longer. Oh well... I also was trying to do the TLC for Splitcoast Stampers. I tried, but I don't think I did it right. I should have read the directions better. The other thing I tried on this card was hand writing the sentiment. I tried doing it with pencil first then going over it with ink. I should have done that first because the copper marker that I used to outline  didn't let me erase the pencil as much as I wanted to.  So ok things didn't work out how I pictured in my mind, But I like this card because I tried to do things outside of my comfort zone.
I am also going to link this up to the  coffee lover's blog hop.

Here is my card for the coffee lover's blog hop. I was going for a vintage look. I used Mark's Finest Papers set called OH BEANS,

I sewed four different pages of designer paper. I also sewed a strip of burlap and a lacy paper doily.
I used a digital sentiment from Daydream Designs. I added ribbon and pearls.

The coffee cups were all paper pieced. After fussy cutting the little cups, I glued them to paper springs. I outlined the rims of the cup with a gold sharpie marker.

My coffee cup card is an easel style card. I was going to use some dp with roses. for the bottom of
my easel but it looked to busy so I settled for layered paper doilies and more pearls.

I hope everyone has fun on this blog hop. I love would love it if you left me a comment on my card.
Have a blessed Monday,

When I think of nutcrackers, a cute little guy like the one on my card isn't what comes to my mind. My mom's dad, Papa, had a pecan tree and he would gather, crack and shell the nuts from his tree. He didn't have time for cute. He had an industrial type that when he pulled a lever back it would send the weighted end crashing into the nut with a lot of force. Pecans have never tasted as good as those he cracked for us from his tree. Hard to think I have been without my Papa for 25 years.
I found a little nutcraker charm to add to my card. I also thought that nutcracker needed some texture. I added the end of a q-tip for his beard and moustache.

For my card I used a technique called paper quilted die cut. (A technique that my friend Maxine introduced me to. Thanks Maxine!)

I took some scraps and cut them into little 1 inch squares. I then cut the squares in half making a bunch of triangles. I think I had 20 or more of each paper.

I didn't really have a pattern, I just started gluing the triangles down onto a piece of white typing paper.
When the paper was all glued down, I sprayed it with gold shimmer spray.
After the gold shimmer spray was dry I took a redish brown ink and stamped the mum all over the quilted paper.
Here you can see the stamped mums on the quilted paper.
I put a little bit of copper Inka gold on the lid of the jar and added some water and painted the mums with the copper. (I made sure that it was dry before closing it up so that it won't grow mold.)
When the inka gold dried, I used a leaf die to cut out several leaves. I took a copper metallic pen and went around the edges of the leaves.

Here is a photo of my finished card. I used fall looking dp, a page from and encyclopedia, twine, a button and pearls to finish it off.
Here is a close up of the leaves,

I do not celebrate Halloween because of personal beliefs. Because of that I don't make Halloween cards or projects, so a set like today's is a challenge for me. I looked at this set for quite awhile and then I decided on using this spider. Once I had a person in mind to give it to, the card just kind of fell together. I made this card for my dear friend Katie. She made a video last year that went viral about life with her 4 little boys.

A couple of weeks ago, one of her boys came and told her about his new pet. He had named it and everything. It was a giant, and I do mean giant, spider that was hanging outside of their home. She shared that story on facebook and their were several people who were giving advice on how to get rid of him... mostly by doing him in ( and by him, I mean the spider)  But she said how could she do that when her son had already named the spider. I asked her about the spider this weekend when we were doing worship team together at church, and she assured me that the spider was still there and doing well, but she was hoping that "cold weather" might solve the problem. She has a great sense of humor, as you can see from her video. I thought it would be fun to make her a spider card. On the inside I used the sentiment from Mark's Finest Papers set called FAMILY that says "What a Woman". That is how I feel about my friend. She is an amazing mom and I hope when she sees this, it makes her smile and laugh. I stamped the spider on to a strip of dp left over from when I was making my balloon card for yesterday. I then layered that strip over a piece of black cardstock and more of the same dp. I like how it smudged in the right hand corner. I used a black ink pen to draw the web. I colored him in red because I thought a "pop" of red would make him stand out. I used my new spellbinders garden gate die to make the fence at the bottom. It was a very CAS card for me. I really like how it turned out.
