Ok, I'll just admit that I didn't know what I was going to do with the hunting outfit at first. I had the set in front of me for days. I kept looking at it and one day while looking at it, the lines in the outfit reminded me of the stitching on a quilt. So I  decided to stamp the outfit several times.

I then used blue, green and purple markers to ink spray smash over the outfits.

I then sprayed over the top with gold shimmer spray.

Can you still see the outfit in my quilt?

How about now, behind the sewing machine and scissors? The sewing machine and scissors are from a MFP set called IN  STITCHES

I used two felt buttons to make the stopper for my easel card.

I hope you like what I did with this set.

I used Paper Doll Chuck to make a masculine card. I made it with a special guy in mind. That guy would be my 16 year old son. I took a page out of a local phone book for the restaurants. I scanned it and printed it on cardstock for the background. I stamped Time's Running Out. I masked the sentiment and stamped the pocket watch over it and added the Can you spare some time for little ol' me. Those three stamps are from 3 of MFP stamp shop's mini sets. I can't believe how fast time is going by. I know that my time with my son at home is getting less each day. I am going to use this card to ask him out on a date. He might dress up like this for our date, because he loves to wear suits. He has worn suits to school just because he wanted to, not just for special occasions.

This is a collage of his photos from newborn in top left corner, to Sophomore year with his friends after winning first place at a show choir competition this spring. He is the one on the left in the suit.

I am proud of the man he is becoming. Just this summer a friend from church was injured and unable to use his hand so my son offered to mow his lawn for him. My son has a quiet servant heart and he has a quirky sense of humor. 

Sprayed-rocks-background

I have a card to share with you for this week's Mix-ABILITY challenge. The challenge that Kyra gave us was to use pebbles and sprays to make a unique background. My card started as white cardstock. I knew I wanted some color, plus I knew I needed more than just the sprays to make it a mixed media card. So I started with a piece of white cardstock and I ink spray smashed it with markers.  

Now I think river rock would have been good to use for this technique, but all I had was gravel from my driveway. I washed the gravel and dried it and then placed it on the colorful background. I  sprayed over the gravel with gold shimmer spray. 

If you look closely at this photo you can see the areas that don't have gold spray where the rocks were.

 I liked how it turned out, but I wasn't sure if you could see the technique well enough so I took a plan piece of white cardstock, placed the gravel on the cardstock and used the gold spray again.

 Well, after I used just the gold spray this is what I got.

I really didn't like how just the gold and white looked. So I decided to do the reverse of the first. The first was ink spray smash then sprayed. This is what I got when I sprayed then ink spray smashed.

 I absolutely loved how this looks. 

The technique featured this week on SCS was using rolled flower dies to make roses. I made some roses earlier this week and I knew I wanted to use it on my card. As pretty as the second sheet is, the roses didn't look as pretty with it, so I used the lighter first sheet for my card.

I stamped the sentiment with black stazon ink.

 I used this week's SCS sketch. for my card. I added the roses and the baby's breath. I also added random little dots of gold acrylic paint. I outlined the small circle and the edge of the panel with a gold sharpie marker.

The other result of this technique? I have some really pretty gold rocks.

 OK, I wasn't planning on making another Coffee card, but what can I say, when inspiration hits you follow it.
                                          

My friend Robin was hostess for a challenge on SCS for Free for all challenge F4A277
The challenge was a recipe challenge. You had to make a card with items that spelled out J-U-N-E.
For J- I used MFP set called Java Time.  I also used Jute twine.

For U- I used UTEE to do Joseph's Coat for SCS mix-ABILITY challenge MIX124. I also used my Unity Beautiful Elements set for the coffee stains

For N- I used newsprint (Unity Classified Newsprint) and I used sentiment "N"eed coffee.

For E- I made an Easel card and I used Eyelets

The cup panel started as white cardstock and it looked like this before I embossed with UTEE and added the dark layer and the gold shimmer spray and the newsprint and coffee stains.

Joseph's coat got an alteration

 The mix-ABILITY challenge on SCS this week is to do Joseph's coat technique. MIX124   Here is a link to this technique. JOSEPH'S COAT.  I didn't have the required inks so I improvised. For the base of my card I used 2 reds and 2 purple markers. I did ink spray smash technique to lay down the color.

I stamped a heart from Unity's Beautiful Elements, mixed media set. I used versamark ink and UTEE.

 

The only black ink I have in my stash is black stazon and that wouldn't have worked for this technique, so I altered the technique by using dark markers. I used a combination of dark blue, dark green and black.

It doesn't give the solid dark black, but I kinda liked the little peek of color underneath.

I took gold shimmer spray and sprayed the panel. I outlined it with gold marker and wrapped the panel with gold thread. I also added dots of gold acrylic paint.

I added sentiment with gold ep. This card is going to a mother who doctors have told her that there is no hope for her son. As I . was making this, I was praying and thinking about the story of Joseph. When Joseph's own brothers threw him in a pit and wanted to kill him it looked hopeless. When Joseph was sold as a slave it looked hopeless. When Joseph was in prison for a crime he didn't commit, it looked hopeless. But in all those situations although it looked hopeless, God still had a plan.  I love the following scripture:

Jeremiah 29:11New International Version (NIV)

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a future. 

I don't know what God's plans are for this young man, but I believe there is HOPE.

Robots riding around on Father's day

Slim Jim and Albert  are back again. I wanted to try and make a Father's Day card with my two robots. I thought awhile how I wanted to draw them. I first thought of fishing, because that

 is a dad activity right? Well, I don't EVER remember my dad going  fishing. The closest

he got was going to Red Lobster for dinner. 

Then I thought of sports. My dad's favorite sport is Basketball, I decided not to do that because 

Slim Jim would definitely have the height advantage on Albert. 

So I decided to do cars. My dad loves cars.

Here is a close up of the robots in the car.

I had friends when I was in high school who loved drawing cars. But they were all boys. They would spend hours drawing their favorite cars and drawing concept cars. But I don't think I have drawn a car before. Definitely a practice in perspective. The hardest part for me were the tires. The two sides of my brain were arguing. One side said draw them oval and flat at the bottom to get the right perspective, The other side said, draw them like round circles. Because tires are round. Hopefully someday they will learn to get along and I'll draw the perfect car but until then...

Happy Father's Day dad. You have always loved and encouraged me. My love of art and creating comes from you and mom.

The license plate on the car is my dad's. It has special meaning to him and kind of a family joke about his job.

Slim Jim and Albert drink coffee

                                                          

I have been doodling around with these two little robots some time now. I call the tall robot Slim Jim and the little robot I call Albert. I decided that Slim Jim needed to go to Starbucks, but Albert was content to make his coffee at home. But as everyone knows. Coffee just tastes better with friends. I colored the two coffee cups with prisma colored  pencils. The robots were colored with silver and copper inka gold metallic rub. This card is going to my good friend Debra. Someday Debra, we are going to have our coffee together in person.

The close ups show more of the detail but weren't slanted so the camera didn't pick up on their metallic look.

My second card for the coffee lovers bloghop has a watercolored background. I love how the browns and blues blended together.

I used MFP set called BE A SHOW OFF.

 I also used Unity's BEAUTIFUL ELEMENTS

And I used Lizzie Anne Designs - Little Bits

I stamped the peacock using Black Stazon ink. I water colored him and the background. I added glitter to the tail and head feathers. I also added drops of gold acrylic paint, and teal and blue sequins.  I outlined the panels using a Sharpie gold metallic marker.

Multi challenges

I made this card with lots of different challenges in mind. The first challenge was the Mixability challenge... to have a hole on project to honor donut day. 

It is also for Watercoloring bloghop and Coffeelover's bloghop.

I stamped the image several times. I watercolored the bottom image. The "holes"  on my card are my little sequins. They made me think of little colored donuts. Then I layered the cup image with glitter on the steam and then added another layer with the cracked glass cup. The glitter and cracked glass technique was a challenge that my friend Pam and I came up with. Both of us, within a couple of weeks of eachother had pyrex dishes explode on us. I overheated mine by putting having it on my stove and accidentally turning on the wrong burner. She had hers in her oven when it exploded. We were joking that our guardian angels were the ones who took the glass to spare us. So we decided to do cracked glass technique and glitter on a card. Accidentally my card also fit the second choice of the mixability challenge which was to take an oops and make it wonderful. I had originally wanted the cracked glass to be all of that rectangle but it didn't crack like I wanted it too, It was headed for the trash but then I decided to just cut out the cup. It actually turned out better that way, because I was able to add the glitter to the steam.

MFP Stamp Shop 

The other day I saw a project that had "story starters". It was a bag with rocks with painted pictures on the rocks. It thought it could translate easily to paper. When I saw the little tree, I knew that was how I was going to use the tree. I made two origami boxes. One just slightly bigger than the other. I stamped the little tree on the lid. On the sides of the lid I stamped TELL, ME, A, and  STORY

I then went through my other MFP stamps and picked images to stamp on the story starter cards. 

I used quite a few different images. I stamped them with black stazon ink and I watercolored them. This story starter box is going to go to my cousin to use with her small children. 

That got me thinking that it would be fun if you guessed how many MFP sets I used to make the cards. So here is my challenge. Guess how many sets I used and let me know in your comment. Summer rainstorm- mixability card.

This week's mixability challenge on splitcoaststampers.com is to make a summer or graduation card with sparkle and use at least 2 mediums. You might look at my card and wonder where my summer is. Well.... I started by thinking summer... hot... sun... sun shining through clouds... plus I grew up in Arizona where the summer thunderstorms were a special treat. A break in the heat. Especially since we didn't have any air conditioning. I ink(markers) spray smashed the background. I stamped the clouds and painted them with white acrylic paint. I used a black ink pen to outline the clouds after I painted them I added pencil and acrylic paint to the raindrops. on the little highlights of the raindrops I added a drop of glue and glitter. I also sprayed the cloud panel with silver shimmer spray.  

I have been wanting to put more of a personal touch with my mixed media projects by handwriting my quotes. I hand wrote the quote on the bottom of the easel for this card. It says. "Your kindness is like the sun shining through the clouds on even the darkest day."

It was hard to photograph the sparkle so I made a quick video. I hope you can see the sparkle and see what I was going for with this project.
