Lettering Tutorial - Bible journaling

For this bible journal page I used STAMPlorations IN BLOOM: DARLING DOG ROSES

I wanted to add adjectives of how God sees me.
Here is a tutorial on how I added those words to my page.

Hand lettering Tutorial.

1. I started with the words I wanted to write.

2. I next went to the website FONT SQUIRREL  There are lots of different fonts, but I like the SCRIPT ones.

3.  For my first word "Beautiful" I used the font "Digory Doodles"

When the font comes up there are several choices of things I  can do.
"Sample" "Specimen" "Test Drive" etc.
I click on "Test Drive"

Then a text box opens that I can type my word  "Beautiful"  into and it will show me how that word looks in that font.

4. I then take a pencil and I draw that word onto my page.

5. Then I take a sharpie marker, or a black gel pen and I go over the pencil marks.
For the word "Beautiful" I used a regular sharpie marker. I didn't do all the parts of the letters, just the "down" strokes.
Then I used a fine point sharpie to do the other lines.
When I was done with the markers, I took and eraser and got rid of the  pencil marks.

Pretty easy peasy. Right? Here are some more photos of other fonts I used to make the other words on my page.

I did "chosen" in the Carrington font

I did the word "Bold" in the  Euphoria Script font

I did the word "Wonderful" in Kingthings wrote font

and I did the word "lovely" in Miama font

Here is how my page looked with the 5 chosen adjectives.

I wanted the adjectives to stand out so I took water color pencils and colored around the words.
I went over the words with water and then glued page to my journal. It is a little wrinkly because the glue is still drying. As it continues to dry the wrinkles will be less noticeable.

I am a designer for STAMPlorations.

My project for the hop is not just one happy card,
I made several Artist Trading Cards, (ATC)
and I also made an ATC holder.
I use the ATCs to journal bible verses on.

To hold the box shut I made a belly band.
On the belly band and inside the box I used:

On inside of box I journaled Hebrews 16:9

If you would like to make an ATC holder

The craziness of these days makes me turn to my bible for comforting words. I decided to journal
Romans 8:38-29
I used a pencil and my ARTplorations BOLD FLORALS MINI STENCIL
preview-web-stencil-bold-florals-mini
Because I used a pencil with the stencil, I could move the stencil around and put the flowers where I wanted them.

After I traced the flowers with the pencil, I watercolored the flowers.

Then I journaled the scripture.

Neither death, nor life
Neither angels nor demons
Neither the present
nor the future
nor any powers,
Neither height nor depth,
Nor ANYTHING else in all creation
will be able to separate us from the
Love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

gel sticks

I bought gel sticks in January and haven't really played with them, because the first time I tried them I wasn't thrilled with the result. The other day my friend Mich, did a video showing how to use them. I decided to play along. She masked with washi tape and used gelatos. I used some decorative scotch tape. To make the tape be able to pull up I stick it to my arm first to get rid of some of the sticky. I then used my gel stick.

I really liked how the background looked with the masked off area.

I decided to do a page on Peace using gel sticks.

A bible journaling artist named Beverly French Davis, made THIS PAGE with the word "Risen" and a water colored flower. It inspired me to do a page using the word "PEACE"

I scribbled and didn't have any real idea  of what I was creating. Mostly making some areas darker and  leaving some areas lighter.

I took a paper towel and dipped it in water and rubbed it until the colors blended. There were still marks that didn't blend, but I was ok with it.

I took a sharpie and I wrote the word peace

I thickened the word peace on down strokes. I watercolored a flower and leaves and I splattered the page with watercolor.

I added the words "Live in" I doodled lines around the flowers and leaves. I added white highlights. I cut the cardstock down to fit in my bible.  Journaled 2 Corinthians 13:11

Plans

Who knew that a worldwide pandemic would send us to our homes? We are all needing to be cautious to prevent getting sick and even dying. The first few days of isolation, I was probably like most of you, curious about what was going on. I watched the news to learn what I could. I guess I thought that the more I knew about the Covid-19 virus the more control I would have. However the more I watched the news, the more scared and upset I got. As this week started, I was feeling really sad. My little grand daughter turns one next month and my daughter and I were talking about how our plans for her birthday are on hold. So many of us had plans for April 2020 that didn't include being in our homes not able to go out. How I'm dealing with all this uncertainty is bible journaling. One verse really stood out to me this week.

 Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord.
Plans for welfare, not for evil.
To give you a future and a hope.

I decided to journal it on my little bible journal cards. I was thinking plans, and that led me to thinking about blueprints. I came up with what I call faux blue print technique.
You can start with blue cardstock or you can do what I did and start with white cardstock that I made blue. I made mine blue with two different colors of gel sticks.  I just scribbled over the cardstock.

I watercolored it to blend the gel sticks.

The next step is to draw or stamp on the blue. You can draw, like I did with a white gel pen.
You could also draw with a white paint pen or a white colored pencil,
or you could stamp with white ink.

Next draw straight lines around the images and add arrows at the ends of the lines.

I scribbled a zig zag on the centers of the line.

Then I wrote some words .

This is the back of the bible journaling card.

The one finishing touch I added was I used the white gel pen to draw diagonal lines through the letters.

I did a second card.

I went to stamp and found out that my white ink pad was too dry, I decided to stamp with blue ink. I stamped STAMPlorations IN BLOOM DARLING DOG ROSES

I then traced over the lines with the white gel pen.

Then I drew the lines and added words.

The back of my card.

How the finished card looks in my little bible journaling cards album.

I also did this technique in my bible planner.

I hope this verse encourages you as much as it did me.

My challenge for the splitcoaststampers this week is to try the faux blue print or to do something mixed media in a planner.
