MIXABILITY LEAVES blocked for fall
This week's mixability challenge at SCS is to block of a 2 inch wide strip of the card. It could be diagonal, horizontal, or vertical, Then you are to fill the unmasked area with mixed media. I chose diagonal. On the outside areas I started with crayons. I used fall colors. Then I took ARTplorations TRIBAL TRIANGLES stencil and I used a black fine tipped sharpie to trace the triangles. I then scribbled with brown distress crayons. I added some water and rubbed them in. Then I added some gold metallic rub. I decided I wanted just a little more texture so I burned some Aleene's tacky glue and when cooled I added more gold metallic rub. I guess technically we weren't supposed to do any mixed media in the middle. But I don't like empty white areas. One reason I struggle with CAS design. I decided to stamp STAMPlorations TRENDY LEAVES 2 If anyone wants to have the mixed media look but are a little intimidated, these leaves are perfect stamps to play with. They already have a Mixed Media "LOOK" to them with the flowers and words layered over the leaves. All I did was stamp them and water colore them. But ink and watercoloring... mixed media... See, easy peasy.

For my last TRICK card is a type of card that was the first TRICK card I learned how to make. It is called a waterfall card.
Here is a really short video showing how it works. My videographer (my teenaged son) was in a hurry to do something else, so I was lucky to get the few seconds of help that I did.
I am going to post this on the Fall Coffee Lover's Bloghop.

For my second TRICK card I did a pop up card. Make sure you check out my tutorial for making a pop up card and try it out yourself.
Here is the outside of the card:
Here is the inside view:
I made this card for the owners of the music store in our town. It had been in business for 93 years and is closing this month because the owners have health issues. Jack and Lynn Meister have made such an impact in our community. They will be sorely missed. I made this card for all the band students to sign to thank Jack for all he did for the kids. Other than for craft supplies, my family's mad $ has gone to this store. Just this last year Jack restored my husband's cello. His hands have fixed and maintained many of my families instruments. He rescued a french horn that had been bent when my daughter fainted on it in high school. From ukeleles to drums and tumpets and bugles they all found their way from this store to our home. I pray that their retirement is a blessing to them and that they know they are loved and missed.

Anyone who has read my blog for any length of time knows I don't celebrate Halloween. So each year I struggle when it comes to this season as to what I will share. I was thankful that this year the MFP theme was Trick or Treat. I decided to share with you cards that do a TRICK. My fellow designer and good friend Shirley will be doing the TREAT part. A win win.
I decided first to show you a card that is called a magic coloring card. It is called this because it looks like it colors itself. Here are some photos of it. Closed/Opened
But photos alone don't do justice to the "TRICK" so here is a short video clip showing how it looks.
It is a lot of fun, even if it is a bit challenging and time consuming. It is a definite wow factor for the recipient. I hope you enjoyed seeing it
Make sure you come back tomorrow for another fun TRICK card.

STAMPlorations Stencil Sunday 9-25-16
Hello friends. It is not too late to join ARTplorations Mixed Media Challenge. You can link up your non-card mixed media projects. The theme is always anything mixed media goes EXCEPT a card and you must use at least one stencil (any brand) on your project. Linky closes on the 30th.
Prizes: $15 gift certificate OR choice of any 2 ARTplorations stencils to the winner
choice of 1 ARTplorations stencil to the top picks
Since the first day of Fall was last week, I decided to go with a fall theme.
I had a little art journal sitting on my desk. I decided to use ARTplorations Tribal Triangles stencil. I used copper colored acrylic paint. Then I shifted the stencil and put school glue. I burned the school glue with a heat gun and rubbed metallic rub(gold) over the glue. I stamped with black ink the STAMPlorations Mini Mixed Media Background stamps.
I then added burlap and two burned paper bag leaves and three little black brads. I used CUTplorations Trendy Leaves 2 dies to cut the burned paper bags. I used copper and gold metallic rub to bring out the texture.

FALL COFFEE LOVER'S BLOGHOP second card
I used the free digi that STAMPlorations is giving for the Fall Coffee Lover's Bloghop. If you would like to use that digi you can get it HERE. I water colored the background and pumpkin. I paper pieced kraft paper for the cups. I used copper and gold metallic rub for the leaves. The background behind the pumpkin panel has so much texture. I started by watercoloring the background. I then used ARTplorations HONEYCOMB DELIGHT stencil and copper acrylic paint. I then moved the stencil over slightly and put school glue on the background with the stencil. I then burned the glue with my heat gun. Then I went over burned glue with gold metallic rub. I then glued cheesecloth that I had dyed the same as my background. I added pearls and 3 burned paper bag leaves. To make my leaves I used CUTplorations TRENDY LEAVES 2 COORDINATING DIES and STAMPlorations TRENDY LEAVES 2 STAMPS burned paper bag technique with sharpie marker and gold and copper metallic rubs. I then stamped the Trendy leaves 2 stamp with black stazon ink on the leaves. It is hard to see in photo because of all the texture but you can see it best on the left copper leaf.

Masculine Music Cards
I made two music cards today for a special order for a friend of mine who is a music teacher.
The first card is an easel card with keyboard at the bottom.
The second card was inspired by THIS VIDEO on making a Triple Flap Fold card.
I had a lot of fun making this card. If I make another one like this, I am going to add a ribbon at the bottom and under the top flap so that it could be tied shut.

challenge card for fall
I have a friend who is having a benefit auction to raise funds to help her brother who was injured in an accident. I am putting together a basket of cards. I thought it would be fun to make a Fall card to add in to the basket. So since I had some time today I made this card. I combined the following challenges:
A Day for Daisies #154 (Which was to use A Day for Daisies image and add wood.)
Cut it up #104 (Which is to have a die cut and watercolored element)
Really Reasonable Ribbon #148 (Autumn theme and ribbon or trim)
and
I printed and watercolored this A Day for Daisies image. I then used a die to cut it out.
I put some wood panels behind it. I thought it kind of looked like a farm fence. I added some burlap ribbon and some die cut leaves.
The leaves were so much fun to make. I used CUTplorations TRENDY LEAVES 2 dies to cut the leaves out. The TRENDY LEAVES 2 stamps are really cute, but this time I just decided to use the die. I cut out the leaves and I crumpled them up so that they looked more like real leaves.
The base of my card I took copper and gold paint and made a textured background by dipping the paint onto a crumpled up piece of paper and dabbing it to the white cardstock. It turned out with a marble like finish.

Butterfly of the Heart Desires
For this card I combined the following two challenges:
(The elements I chose were: Sunflowers and Sketch)
and
For the Sunflowers on my card I used the new STAMPlorations COLOR BLOOMS coloring book.
I took one of the sunflower pages, and I watercolored the sunflowers with crayola markers. I added copper inka gold to the centers of the flowers and I stamped dots over the copper with black stazon ink.

I made 2 projects using TRENDY LEAVES -2.
My first one is a wall hanging.
I took stamped the leaves using distress inks and black stazon ink.
I then fussy cut them. I glued some die cut letters to a piece of burlap and added the leaves.
I sewed a bamboo skewer at the top and bottom of the burlap and added some black twine to hang it.
My second project is a card. I took distress inks and put them onto a piece of cardstock. I used the TRENDY LEAVES die to cut out the leaf. I embossed with the TRENDY LEAVES-2 stamp and copper embossing powder. I added a square of drywall tape to make th eleaf stand out I added die cut letters. Very CAS compared to my regular style, but I really like how the leaf looks.
Make sure you check out the STAMPlorations blog to see what the other fabulous designers have done with this set, and don't forget to comment!
