Birdhouse

Here is my project for this week's Stencil Sunday at STAMPlorations

Check out the current mixed media challenge. We would love to have you create and link up non-card mixed media projects. Remember the theme is always anything mixed media goes except a card and you must use at least one stencil (any brand) in their project. Linky closes at the end of the month.

Prizes: $15 gift certificate OR choice of any 2 ARTplorations stencils to the winner

choice of 1 ARTplorations stencil to the top picks

Here is my project for this week's Stencil Sunday

.
ARTplorations- Honeycomb delight stencil
STAMPlorations- Trendy Birds 2

I started with a brown piece of cardstock that had a script
design.
On the back of the cardstock I traced a little bird house template. I have had this template so long, I don't remember where I got it. I had even forgotten that I had it. I found it while cleaning through my scraps this week.

I cut it out and scored it with a stylus.

I took the ARTplorations Honeycomb Delight stencil. I traced some guidelines. With a mouse pad underneath to give it cushion I embossed the roof panels using the stencil and a stylus.

This is how it looked right after I embossed the roof panels. You can see the embossing, but it wasn't very pronounced.

I took gold metallic rub and I rubbed over the  embossed areas.

This photo shows how the metallic rub really made the embossing stand out.

I added some distressed ink over the metallic rub to add extra texture.

I die cut a circle for the door to the birdhouse.

I glued the house together. I put a bamboo skewer through the bottom of the house  I added some floral filler and quilled roses around the house.

I stamped STAMPlorations Trendy Birds 2 with black stazon ink onto red cardstock. I fussy cut out the birds and glued them to the outside of the birdhouse.

I had a blast making this project. I hope you enjoyed it. I made this collage photo to show you different sides and angles of the birdhouse.

Rose of encouragement

This week my friend Jeannie asked us to send her the roses. It took me all week to get this card done but I did finish it today. I spent 3 days cleaning and organizing my scraps. I found out I have a lot of scraps. Every time I found  something with roses I put it to the side. I sat down today and made this. This last Monday my friend Pam and I decided to do Jeannie's Dragonfly Journeys Roses Challenge and we decided to use this week's Mojo Mondays 461 and we added that we needed to send it to someone who needed encouragement. This card is going to my friend Becky who has had a rough year.  .

Write to catch a butterfly

This week's MIX-ability challenge this week was very challenging for me. The challenge is to do illegible writing as a background. I really tried, but really struggled to "write" so that it looked artistic and that you weren't distracted trying to read it. So how I worked through that was to emboss my cardstock. I rubbed metallic rub over the raised areas. I then took a black marker and mimicked the embossing.
The blue butterflies were ones from my stash. I spent several days this week sorting through all my scraps. I seldom through anything away. Some times I will have stamped something that just doesn't work with the current project. I don't remember when I stamped and colored these butterflies, but they were perfect for this card.

My friend Pam and I added an extra challenge to add blue and cheesecloth. I really like how this turned out. So much more fun creating than cleaning.

The LIGHT and the lighthouse

I made two very similar nautical/scripture cards. The first one (seen in the first 2 photos) I used MOJO Monday Sketch 460
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR4CeOonNTXESFmDZVsxigSPQbgFp20k3T9w9OFis1_uYP7KYHe0pDyuAyFU57AMewyvOZCP0-75ub4KCb0ab-ls9lFnJ-atG4SdS_9ycMdEAda-d9rRGqgOMCzfABnBc1Nrz1Tzrrxzn7/s1600/mojo460.gif
However, I turned it sideways and eliminated the small panel. I tried to figure out how to add it, but because I made the scripture the focal point. I didn't want to cover it up. I added cheesecloth that I put into a bag with distress inks and dyed. I used wink of gold for the light coming from the lighthouse.
The stamps I used were:
ODB -Scripture and It is Well
STAMPlorations -Mini Mixed Media Backgrounds
RED Rubber- Lighthouse

The little sea shells were diecut. The middle one has fingernail polish to give it a pearl look. The little sand dollar on the right I used Distress Crayons on.

I made this card second. (next 2 photos)  I did it to fix a couple of things I didn't like about my first card. On my first card the wink of stella for the light rays, the brush leaked and the lines were bigger than I wanted. The other thing is I didn't like how the circle looked. Same stamps except I added one more. The little circles in the corner are from LIZZIE ANNE- Little Bits.

These cards are for my friend Jeannie's challenge

When I make my cards I often listen to music. This song by New World Son - Learning to be the Light, was what I was listening to while I made the second card.  I was thinking that if I believe that Romans 8:28  is true, when troubles come I should react differently than people who have no hope. People who don't know the light of the world. I was thinking how important it is for me to not be ashamed of the light but let it shine for all of those around me. I'm learning to be the light every day because "IT IS WELL,WITH MY SOUL."

ARTploration Mixed Media Challenge - August -Scripture Wall Hanging

It is the start of a new month. Time for ARTplorations  mixed media challenge. You are welcome to share your mixed media projects with us.  The theme is always anything mixed media goes except a card and you  must use at least one stencil (any brand) on your project. Linky closes at the end of the month.

Prizes: $15 gift certificate OR choice of any 2 ARTplorations stencils to the winner
choice of 1 ARTplorations stencil to the top picks

For my project I used:

STAMPlorations stamp set: Trendy Birds2

STAMPlorations stamp set: Mini Mixed Media Background

ARTplorations stencil:Bold Florals

I used texture paste and the BOLD FLORALS stencil. I water colored them. I stamped the TRENDY BIRDS-2 stamp and MINI MIXED MEDIA BACKGROUNDS with black stazon ink. I glued pearl beads to center of flowers. I added cheesecloth and ribbon flowers. I made this for my mom and I asked what scripture she wanted. One of my goals this year was to work on my hand lettering, so I am practicing every chance I get. I was rather happy with how this lettering looks.

On Monday it will be my turn to share a tutorial on the STAMPlorations blog. I will be showing how I made a bookmark that matches this wall hanging. Make sure you check it out. Have a Blessed Day!

Mixed media is in the bag.

Today it is my turn to host the mixed media challenge at Splitcoast.
Come check it out HERE.

This is the project I made for that challenge.

For this project I used:
 STAMPlorations Mini Mixed Media Backgrounds
STAMPlorations Big Bloom Factory
and Deep Red Swallowtail
Sizzix Flower Vine Embossing folder
Apple Barrel copper, gold, black and white acrylic paints

I took a plastic grocery bag. I cut the bottom of it off and folded it until it was 8 layers thick. I ironed it between two pieces of typing paper. When it had melted and then cooled, I ran it through my cuttlebug.

I put drops of the acrylic paint right onto the plastic. I rubbed it on with my fingers.
Before the paint dried, I wiped some of it off to make the embossing stand out.

After the paint dried I stamped STAMPabilities mini mixed media backgrounds with black stazon ink. I glued the plastic to a piece of white cardstock and then matted it with black cardstock.

The flowers are STAMPability flowers that I added copper and white acrylic paint to. I have been practicing my hand lettering. The sentiments I hand lettered.

Thank you for BEEing so helpful Mojo card

Today I had a lady help me get some missing paperwork sent to me. I don't know her but she was very helpful and helped in such a cheerful way, that I felt I wanted to send her a thank you card. I used this weeks MOJO MondaySketch 459
I used some really cheerful dp. (Kimbery Sabel-Growing Garden) and kraft and white cardstock

I made it an easel card with punched flowers as the stopper for the easel.

I hand lettered the sentiment for the bottom of the easel.

I made a paper spring to make the bee sort of float above the flowers. I added glitter to both bees' wings.

The pink and yellow dp I embossed and sanded to bring out the white core.

It would be fun to be a bee in the room when she opens the card because by the time it takes to get there in the mail she will probably have forgotten helping me. I just hope it blesses her and makes her work week happy.

Celebrate National Coloring Book Day with STAMPlorations

Happy National Coloring Book Day.

Remember what is like to sit and color in a coloring book?
More people are rediscovering the joy and relaxation of
 coloring in grown-up coloring books.
STAMPlorations has released a fabulous coloring book
designed with card makers, crafters and mixed media artists in mind.

colorbloomscover
Shery is so sweet she is sharing a sample page that you can download
and color and link your finished page for a chance to win
 a copy of COLOR BLOOMS

You need to check that out HERE FOR SAMPLE PAGE

I thought I would share with you what I did to celebrate coloring.
 I downloaded the sample page
and printed it on white cardstock. It measures 5 x 7.
I know it is trendy to buy markers that cost about $5 a marker, but
I like crayola markers because you can get a whole set of markers for the price that one of the expensive markers costs. All three of my cards were colored using only crayola markers.

My first card used the whole sample page. I added glitter to the centers of the flowers. I added pearls and ribbon.. I matted it with 2 different shades of pink and then black cardstock.
My next two cards were a second page that I colored. I cut the page in half and then cut each half into thirds. This card I matted with black and purple cardstock.
This card I matted with black white pink  and then black again. I added ribbons and pearls.
