This was for the SCS sketch challenge. It was also for Monday's Technique lovers challenge to decorate the inside of the card. This is a reminder to me to be content. JOY is not in things... is one of my favorite sentiment stamps. I paired it with 1Timothy 6:6-7 that says... "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. "

Near the Cross
Near the Cross: Frances J. Crosby
Jesus keep me near the cross,
there a precious fountain-
Free to all, a healing stream
Flows from Calvr'y's mountain.
Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and Mercy found me;
There the bright and morning star
sheds its beams around me.
Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
bring it's scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day
with its shadows o'er me.
Near the cross, I'll watch and wait
Hoping trusting ever, Till
I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river.
In the cross, in the cross
be my glory ever.
Till my raptured soul shall find
rest beyond the river.
Jesus keep me near the cross,
there a precious fountain-
Free to all, a healing stream
Flows from Calvr'y's mountain.
Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and Mercy found me;
There the bright and morning star
sheds its beams around me.
Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
bring it's scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day
with its shadows o'er me.
Near the cross, I'll watch and wait
Hoping trusting ever, Till
I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river.
In the cross, in the cross
be my glory ever.
Till my raptured soul shall find
rest beyond the river.
For the Teapot Tuesday Challenge, Cindy challenged us to make a card that would help Brutus to realize that he is an Easter bunny not a puppy. I made this card with Resurrection Sunday in mind. I love this old hymn. Near the cross. I'll watch and wait for His return!! This is also for the Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge. Kristine challenged us to make a card with a portion raised. The cross on my card has two layers the top layer is popped up with craft foam in between the two layers. I made these cream colored roses the other day, thinking well, maybe someday, I will use them. Well that day turned out to be today.

Paper Roses
This is my CASE of Queen Pat's roses card. It is also for the CAS challenge for the Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge. It looks simple, but the fact that I made each and every rose didn't make the card simple at all. It took me about 2 hrs to make the roses. I wish I had the leaf punch like my friend Pat, but I don't. It is on my wish list, but with my washing machine breaking this last week, a paper punch isn't high on the list of needs for my family. I used instead my snowflake punch. Now I know there are a lot worse things than having a broken washing machine. My sister found out today that her mother in law has breast cancer. So all my stamping sisters, I'm asking if you will pray with me for healing, and for peace for Lisa. I hope that this roses card will lift her spirits and encourage her.

Stampin B's in yellow purple and green
The Stampin B's challenge this week was to make a card using purple yellow and green. I used yesterday's SCS sketch challenge for the layout of my card. I stamped my little Layers of color butterflies. I stamped one and cut it out and that is the butterfly at the bottom of my card. I stamped another butterfly twice and cut off both of the right wings and layered them on top of eachother. I really like how this card turned out.

Precious Memories
The technique lovers challenge yesterday was to make a card using a childhood memory. I chose to use what I think was one of my earliest memories. I remember lying in bed - supposedly taking a nap- and looking up out the window of my bedroom at the leaves on the trees. I remember watching the negative spaces between the leaves as the wind blew them. Last night as I was talking with my mom she said I had to have been less than 3 because after that I wouldn't have been looking up. This is also for the Stamping Sisters in Christ Challenge to make a clean and simple card. Clean and simple for me means little coloring and limited layers and embellishements. I did have to add one of my Layers of Color butterfly. I used the MOJO131 sketch for my layout. This is also for the Stampin B's challenge to make a monochromatic green card.

CASED CARDS
Casing cards for me is so difficult. Mostly because I find copying someone else's style to be so challenging. I had to try though because on SCS two of my good friends were being honored. Mutnik - Cathy, was the first Queen for the day. She also was the Featured Stamper. So I got the challenge to case 2 of her cards. The other friend is MarilynPrestonn- Peggy. Peggy was the second Queen for the day. I loved her little fairy cards and knew right away which one I would choose.

Safe in the Arms of Jesus
Doesn't that thought of being protected, loved, and safe in Jesus' arms just warm your heart? It does mine. I layered that hymn with my branch and marble texture. I added some quilled flowers, twine, and this sweet little digi bird from Layers of Color. He is going to be one of my new favorites. Today's ways to use it challenge was to make an encouragement card.
CRAZY Butterfly Lady
I finally used the last un-inked butterfly from the layers of color butterfly set. I hadn't figured out how to use this one before. I decided to stamp it on red with versa mark and added gold ep. It had an oriental feeling to me, so I decided make the whole card oriental. The saying is the Chinese character for butterfly. My son after looking at all my cards from the past few months, he said, "Mom you are the Crazy Butterfly Lady!" Perhaps I am. I know I'm crazy for my Layers of Color butterflies. This sketch was from the SCS sketch challenge.

When PEACE like a river...
When Peace like a river attendeth my way... I love this hymn. I made this card for the Stamping Sister in Christ Challenge. Helen challenged us to use PEACE on our card. This is also for Our Daily Bread challenge to use gold or silver on a card. It is also for the TLC at SCS. We were to make our own dp. I did this by layering marble texture, sheet music and my branch drawing in Microsoft Publisher and printing it on tan paper. I love this little butterfly by Layers of Color.
Burlap and Butterfly
I made this for the Inspiration Challenge at SCS and for Our Daily Bread challenge to use cotton. I used little piece of a cotton ball dyed yellow for the centers of my dogwoods. I used a layers of color butterfly to finish my card.
Friday, March 12, 2010
This card was made for the SCS free for all which was to make a fairytale, sparkle, glitter, glamour card. To me fairytales seem to have the central theme of falling in love and living happily ever after. So I added a heart to my card. I cut a heart out and masked it off to stamp the violets behind it. I then chalked the heart and added shading with my prisma colored pencils. I added a sparkly layers of color butterfly.
JOY
The ways to use it challenge was to use something new. I used a sticker of flowers that my Aunt Virginia sent me. I used the masking tape faux leather technique to make my frame. It is also for the Stamping Sisters in Christ challenge to make a JOY card.
Call on the Lord
I made this card for a little girl named Sicily. She is only 5 years old, and she has terminal cancer. Her family is preparing for Hospice to come in and help them during her last days. The mother Kerry, in one of her journals shared the thought that we are all terminal, some of us just have more days than others. It really made me want to be thankful for the 3 teenagers and 1 preteen that drive me crazy, because I still have them around. Each day is a gift from God and we shouldn't take them for granted.
