Little tiny babies...grow up

This week's Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge Hostess is Sandie.
She has picked the following scripture.

I Peter 2:2&3 ...as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word,
that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

The natural progression of newborn babies is that they grow and continue to grow until they are all grown up. Two of my babies are leaving to go to college this month. I'll have to admit that I am struggling with this. On one hand, I am so proud of the women that they have become. They are strong, kind, compassionate, confident... women. But the thought of them leaving is so hard. I listen to music on my computer that brings up a memory and I start crying. The Alan Jackson song, "Remember When" is the worst one. I get about half way through the song and start to bawl. Especially when he sings... "
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when .

But as sad as I am to have them leave, what would be sadder is if they stayed like newborn babies. I have friends who have had handicapped children, that aren't able to care for themselves, and for all practical purposes, their minds are like little children even if their bodies grow.
I don't want to stay a spiritual baby. I want to grow up to be the mature Christian that God has planned for me to be. This scripture says that when we crave this spiritual food, the word of God, we grow, we mature.

I wanted to share with you 2 photos that were taken this Saturday night. With my daughters leaving for
college, we wanted to have a special girls night out.
We drove 2 hrs to get to the big city of Iowa City. We ate dinner at Chili's and
laughed the whole time. After dinner we drove about 20 more mins. to go to an
Accapella concert. We went to hear Tonic Sol Fa. We are all big fans of this style of
music. The concert was jammed packed, standing room only. I had hoped that while
we were in the city to get to go to Hobby Lobby or Michael's, but that didn't happen.
Oh well, there is always next time.

Sandie's challenge this week was to make a baby card or make a card using only pastels.
I used this retired MFP zebra. I went with PINK for a girl in honor of my two girls. I also
did pink, because I had some baby embellishments... but only in one color... You guessed it... PINK.

  1. MariLynn...What a sweet card! Love that little zebra girl!! She is such a sweetie! I remember so well those feelings as I sent my first born off to college. I cried all the way home after dropping him off at his new apartment. I thought my heart would just stop. But he quickly became a part of the BSU, made friends and reported being so involved and so happy. I'll be praying for your heart all fall, cause I know what you are feeling. I'll ask God to bless the girls with new friends, and the excitement of leaving the nest. I'll come back after church and catch the song!!!

  2. SO glad you have a wonderful Girls Night Out Marilynn!! And love those piccies you shared here *Ü* What fun ... and times to cherish. I can't imagine what I'll be feeling when my own 2 girls leave home. Change is never easy, but I know the change from me being a kid to being an adult, my relationship with my own mom turned into something more beautiful. Adult-to-adult. Being there while I got married and had kids. You've got many wonderful blessings to come and maybe even a deeper relationship with your girls. Cute card too! Thanks for sharing that song too! It's one I haven't heard before. ((Hugs))

  5. Thank you so much for sharing. It is so important to to grow physically and spiritually. I look at my children and watch them grow up. Yes there are days that I wish they'd be all grown up, but I do love the little steps they take as they learn to.
How wonderful to have a girls night out before they go. I know they cherish the time with you to!
