Weirdest crafting media

Ok, I love to create. It brings me such joy and satisfaction. I love all my stamping and crafting supplies. But if those were to all disappear, I would still find a way to craft. I saw a photo today of a man who drew designs in the sand. I think I would be like that guy crafting with what I had. The other day my stamping friend Lydia, stamped with milk. She posted a photo on facebook and asked people to guess what she used. There were some really weird answers, like crushed bugs. Well, I am always up for trying something new. I looked at what was on my desk and decided to craft with it. Look closely at my flower. Can you guess how I colored it? and how the center of the flower was done? ...ketchup. Yep, I said ketchup. I had a package of Heinz ketchup. I put some on a lid and used my finger to spread it all over the flower. It gave it a rich orange color. It also smelled good and made me hungry. I then took the last little bit of ketchup and poured it into a puddle in the center of the flower and I let it dry overnight. It was an interesting experiment to say the least. When it was dry I traced the puddle with a gold marker and added some gold dots to the center.

Other interesting things that I used on my card... white glue, shoe polish, ink, twine, paper brads, drywall tape, quilled strips from an old encyclopedia page.

What is the craziest thing you have ever crafted with?

Violets

I used the post card image from Diane's Daydream Designs set called SENDING YOU LOVE.. I had to use cool colors because the Ways to Use it challenge WT 463  for Splitcoast Stampers was to use warm colors if the temperature was above freezing and cool colors if below. Since it was -4 I had no choice.... COLD COLORS. I made the violets by dying typing paper. A year ago I bought store made stamens for flowers. I have only used them a couple of times because they are white. Today I painted them yellow so that they would be great for the centers of the violets. I did ink spray smash technique onto a page from an encyclopedia. I embossed and tea dyed the top heart.

Don't Worry

Today I was blessed to get to play around in my craft room. I combined two challenges, The Mojo Monday (329 sketch challenge) and the Our Daily Bread Designs (inspiration challenge).
http://mojomonday.blogspot.com/2014/01/mojo-monday-329.html
http://ourdailybreaddesignsblog.blogspot.com/2014/01/odbdslc187-inspiration-challenge.html
I was thinking the the circle on the sketch could be looking down on the ball jar, so I made it blue. I cut a circle out of gray textured cardstock. I embossed it in my cuttlebug using a spiral embossing folder. I then painted it with blue and turquoise paint. I then covered the circle with white school glue. When the glue was still tacky, I painted with white paint in some areas. When that was dry I used versamark ink and gold embossing powder to finish the circle.

Looking at the inspiration photo, I like that the jar was sitting on what made me think of white washed wood. I tried to get that same look with my background. I took the same gray textured cardstock that I used for the circle. I painted it with cream acrylic paint. Then I covered the cream paint with white school glue. I used my heat gun to get the glue to a tacky state quickly. Then I with white paint over the glue. What was fun was I didn't use a paint brush for any of this painting. I did it finger painting. I started out using a brush but it put too much paint on at a time I wanted it more rustic and I found that I got that rustic look better when I used my finger.

The part about this card that I like and is definitely the most "MIXED MEDIA" about my card is the flowers. I punched them out of typing paper. I used ink spray smash technique to dye them. I then wet them and crumpled them up into a ball. Then I used a heat gun to dry them. The stem for my flowers was made with twine, masking tape, shoe polish, and a woodgrain embossing folder. I started with a length of twine. I wrapped the twine with the masking tape. I then put that into my cuttlebug using a woodgrain embossing folder. When it came out it had a really neat wood texture. It was flat after going through the cuttlebug and a little thick, so I took my scissors and cut it into 3 strips. I glued the flowers to the stems and for the centers of the flowers, I glued little styrofoam balls. The styrofoam balls were part of a floral filler that I bought at Hobby Lobby over a year ago.

The only stamping that I did on my card was the scripture Matthew 6:34. It is from an Our Daily Bread Designs set called  DON'T WORRY. I stamped it onto white cardstock. I did a water color wash with the turquoise paint that i used for the circle. Again trying to mimic the color of the mason jar.

The last part of how I was inspired by the photo is the paper lace behind the circle. I took the textured cardstock and painted it with just the cream acrylic paint, leaving it still mostly gray. I was inspired for the lace with the lace on the shelves of the china hutch in the photo on the left.

What a great reminder to not worry about tomorrow. This affirms what the Holy Spirit was saying to me on Sunday while I was studying with the small bible study group from our church.

I am also entering this in the Word Art Wednesday 115 challenge.

I decided to stamp the fan and used a black marker to color it all in.
I added three quilled roses. I wanted it to tilt so I used a paper spring
underneath the back of the fan. I adhered the bottom with a black brad.

Come on back tomorrow for more creativity.
