Antique tin ceiling tiles - MIX-ability

(hosted by my friend Polly), is to be inspired by Tin Ceiling Tiles.

I chose to use 3 different embossing folders to make my card. I pulled some cardboard (a 12 pack box of Dr. Pepper) from recycling and used some thick foil (given to me wrapped around Monday night's dinner). How is that for repurposing? I covered the cardboard with glue and pressed the foil down. I then embossed the foil using 3 different embossing folders. After the foil was embossed I covered the foil with white acrylic paint. Before the paint was completely dry I wiped some of it off with a paper towel to allow some of the foil to shine through. Before starting my project I googled tin ceiling tiles for inspiration. I really liked the look of this tile by American Tin Ceilings.
I liked this website because you could look at several different patinas and finishes for the tile. I loved several of the looks and might use them for future projects but the finish I was inspired by today was called Artisan Silver Washed Gold.
Pattern #2

I was also inspired by THIS blog post.

When I read about this week's challenge I had to laugh. Just this last Sunday at a church cookout, my husband I were looking at and talking about the tin ceiling tiles.  This photo below is of the building where our church meets. It was built over 100 years ago. If you are ever in Memphis, Missouri on a Sunday morning, I would love to have you join us in worship.
No photo description available.
You can see the ceiling tiles in this photo I took of my friend Becky and me.

It's a Girl Thing- Sunshine (STAMPlorations - Mixed Media Card)

I had fun playing with my craft supplies today. I made a card for the Splitcoast Stampers MIX- ABILITY challenge to make an Array of Sunshine. We could choose to make a sunset or rainbow array. I chose rainbow. I decided to use STAMPlorations It's A Girl Thing- Sunshine. set.  Wasn't that the perfect choice? It had sunshine in the title. I stamped 2 of the flowers several times. I water colored them leaving some white spaces and fussy cut, shaped and layered them.  I took plain cheap water soluble markers and I drew on my gel plate. I then sprayed the plate with water and I then dipped the cardstock onto the gel plate. I then did distressed barnwood technique over the rainbow. I added a die cut butterfly. I used CUTplorations Flutter Zen 2 Layering Dies. I only used one of the layers so that the rainbow could show through.

If you have been inspired and would like to order this stamp set or die you can use my STAMPcode to get a discount on your order.  Check out all the wonderful products at STAMPlorations.

Crafting By Designs

Date:  Feb 13 - 19
Theme:  Love

I thought I knew what love meant until I became a Grandma. The saying that goes "If I knew how wonderful grandkids are, I would have had them first." is so true. My grandson Noah is the love of my life. I wanted to make him a Valentine that was cute but kind of a guy card. I made this tag. I am going to buy some cookies that I am going to add this tag to. Because my little guy loves cookies.

Valentines for family and an Arizona day card

You might know people who don't like Valentine's day because if you are single it isn't a fun day. My brother is a single man who for several years has said he will celebrate Arizona day which celebrates the birthday of the State of Arizona. So I made him this card. The turquoise reminds me of the Native American jewelry that they make in Arizona. The copper reminded me that copper is one of the 5 c's of Arizona that are important to the economy. The distressed wood technique made me think of the ghost town of Jerome AZ.  What my brother doesn't like is the societal expectation of giving love cards on Valentine's day. But since there is no expectation of giving love cards on AZ day, maybe he will enjoy this one.

For my youngest sister, I made her a Valentine that had lots of color that came from a mono print that I did distressed wood technique to and cut apart. I stamped several sentiments from STAMPlorations sets. I stamped "LOVE" from STAMPlorations Trendy Butterflies  I stamped the music from a retired STAMPlorations set called mini mixed media. and then I stamped some sentiments from STAMPlorations Pocket Blooms  I was kinda going for a graffiti look. I really like how the colors looked on this card.

I used CUTplorations Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle Die on all three cards for my siblings.

My sister has 8 kids so I made 8 little hearts to go on her card with 2 bigger ones. One I added a key hole and I also added a key and a die cut sentiment.

For my daughter I made these little penguin cards. I made some for my other daughter and grandson Noah, but I made them more like a kit that they could make together. The little glitter hearts were cut from a used gift bag.

I made these for my nieces and nephews. I did the eyes slightly different and added a die cut sentiment.

Bible Journaling with STAMPlorations

Another entry in my Bible Journal.
I made a page based on the sermon series that our preacher Jack Sumption just finished about God and his prepositional relationship.
God is with us Immanuel.
God is in us
God is for us
and God works through us as the church.

I stamped the cross and dove from STAMPlorations Faith Expressions 2 stamp set.

I used an alphabet set to stamp the words. I journaled with a black pen. I used a marker to make a box around the prepositions. I watercolored the cross the dove and the insides of the boxes. The little heart was a die cut heart that I glued down and added teal glitter too.

Bible Journaling with STAMPlorations

At Christmas time I got my daughter and myself a journaling bible. I thought I would share 2 art journaling entries that I did yesterday. The first one was for
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18  Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
I  used an alphabet set to stamp "be joyful" "pray" and "give thanks". I then used a pen to hand write the rest. I ended up with a bit of a smudge so to cover it, I doodled little boxes separating the 3 panels. I drew the little praying hands before I remembered that I had a praying hands stamp. Oh well, maybe I'll remember that for next time. The little butterfly is from STAMPlorations Trendy butterfly stamp set.  The little flower at the bottom is from from another STAMPlorations set called Pocket Blooms.

My second entry that I made was on
Philippians 2:14-16. Do everything without complaining or arguing so that you might become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life...

I used STAMPlorations ART MARKS Set.  I stamped 3 little stars and stamped the circles around the stars. I stamped the arrow to point to the scripture and I stamped the word "shine" I added silver metallic rub around the stars and added glue and silver glitter to make the stars sparkle and shine. I used a pen to hand journal the rest.

Crafting By Designs. Anything Goes Challenge Feb 6-25

Design Team - Crafting by Designs

Date:  Feb 6 - 25
Theme:  Anything Goes
Host:  Julia

It was fun seeing all the fun images at Imagine That Digistamp. The owner Kris Breach and I were on Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge blog a long time ago. It is neat to remember her and the fun times we had. I used the tulip image to decorate a cd- envelope. I filled the envelope when it was finished with embellishments that I mailed to a friend who needed some cheering.

For my project I thought about what I really like about mixed media. I love the textures and colors.
When I started I didn't know what exactly I was going to create I just wanted lots of different textures. I added texture paste and ARTplorations Clustered Hearts Stencil.

preview-clusteredhearts
You can see where I did that next to the little key on the top tag. It was kinda hard to photograph. I added copper metallic rub on top of it. I also added texture by doing faux barnwood with glue and paint. I also glued some cheesecloth down. I added more texture by gluing CUTplorations Clustered Hearts Die. I stamped on the tags using STAMPlorations Pocket Blooms

Turner Syndrome Awareness Blog Hop - Butterfly floating easel

Hello Blogging Friends!!

Turner Syndrome is a genetic disorder where a female is born with only one X chromosome, instead of two, leaving her with life-long medical issues and learning disabilities. This condition occurs one in 2,500 female births worldwide, but is more common among pregnancies that do not survive to full term. That is why Turner Syndrome Females are considered MIRACLES!

Nineteen caring Sponsors and eight DT Members have partnered with us to bring Turner Syndrome Awareness to the Public. For details on how you might win any of these fabulous prizes, please see Lori's TS home page. Thanks for learning About Turner Syndrome

My TS related project uses a few colors from the TS official color board:

STAMPlorations is one of the sponsors of this hop. I used the following STAMPlorations products:

I made a floating easel card. After I stamped and watercolored the butterfly I layered 2 of the cut out butterflies with thread sandwiched in the middle so it could hang from the frame. I stamped, watercolored, fussy cut and shaped the flowers. I added glitter to the centers. The base of the easel has a monoprinted panel with leaves.

Visit the "It's A Girl Thing" Turner Syndrome Awareness Inaugural Blog Hop page to become eligible for prizes.
