SC486

Today I took a couple of photos along the way to show some of the progress and details in making this card
I printed these poppies from Diane's Daydream Designs set called POPPIES IN A POT.
I used the outlined set so I could paint it myself I painted it with markers and water. When I was done I outlined with a black ink pen. In the first photo I stopped to show the difference between the outlined areas and not.

In this photo, you can see that it is all outlined and I colored the centers of the flowers. After this stage I masked the flowers and added cream acrylic paint with bubble wrap. I also added copper embossing powder.
This is what it looked like just sitting in a pile on my desk before it was assembled.
 Here is the finished card.
It is my interpretation of Sketch Challenge 486. I am also entering this in Word Art Wednesday 130

MOJO-343 inspired floral card

This is the card I made yesterday for the color challenge at Splitcoast Stampers. I pulled a piece of floral dp out of my stash. It had been there so long I don't remember where I got it. I picked it because of the lavender flowers. The insides of the flowers and the little flowers and berries on the dp were a light blue. I decided to paint them I added gold embossing on all of the top panels and I added copper inka gold metallic rub to the base. Because of all the sparkle I decided to use a piece of twine to add some contrast. I used the MOJO343 sketch. I was on track until I decided to put the paper doily behind the panels. I had to listen to the card, rather than stick to the sketch.

Mountain Plains Crafters first challenge

Ready for an inspiration Challenge? MOUNTAIN PLAINS CRAFTERS has their first challenge. I am very excited and honored to be part of this team of wonderful crafters. First challenge is to be inspired by a photo.
This photo was taken by my good friend Pam. Aren't these flowers gorgeous?

For my card I stamped 3 different flowers sets with the addition of the pussy willow. I painted them with acrylic paint. I splattered white paint over all the card and added gold embossing powder. I was going for a shabby - chic -mixed media effect. I really like how it turned out.

It was hard to get a photograph because it was a rainy day. But here are some close ups. So maybe you can see the details of the card.

Make sure you check out the Mountain Plains Crafters Blog to see what the other designers have done with the inspiration of the flower photo.

Mixed Media Throwback to Kindergarten

Yesterday I took this piece of dp.
It was really pretty but I wanted to mix it up.I started by printing the daisies from Diane's Daydream Designs set called BOUQUET OF DAISIES
I then took white paint and bubble wrap. I stamped with the paint and bubble wrap all over the paper. I then took crumpled up plastic wrap and dipped it in the white paint and added it to the dp. Then this morning when I saw the the mixed media challenge at SCS was to go back to kindergarten and use crayons on our project. I masked the daisies because I didn't want the crayons to get on them and I took my scissors and shaved several crayons onto the dp and melted them with my heat gun. Then I removed the mask and used white paint to paint the daisies. Then I used prisma colored pencils to color the stems and leaves. I then outlined the daisies with a black ink pen. Then I did the hardest thing ever. I cut the panel. It was almost painful to do it, but I knew it would make a more interesting card if I did it. I added burlap and a twine and button daisy. I wanted to show off my mixed media dp so I put a small strip over the burlap.

When I was done and looked at the finished card it reminded me of the Easter dresses that I bought my daughters 16 years ago. I thought it was ironic that we were to throw back to kindergarten because my oldest daughter was in kindergarten that year.  My son in this photo is now a senior in high school getting ready to graduate next month. How quickly time flies.
I had enough scraps left over that I decided to make another card. I took the scraps and cut out 8 petals. I added a button with twine, gold mesh ribbon and freehand cut the stem and leaves.

Then I made a dream catcher's card. This card started as plain white cardstock. I ink spray smashed it with about 6 different blue markers. Then I took blue metallic paint and used the plastic wrap to put it on the paper. Then I took white paint and bubble wrap. I heat embossed with silver embossing powder and heat gun. I wanted to do gold embossing on my first card but I didn't do it before I added the crayons and I knew that the crayons wouldn't take as much heat as the embossing powder... so I considered it a lesson in what to do "next time" So with this card AFTER I did the heat embossing then I added the crayons. I hand drew the dream catcher. The feathers and dream sentiment are from 2 different MFP sets. BE A SHOWOFF and BIRDCAGES. I added black twine and beads. After I got the card all together I used a toothbrush and white paint to splatter the whole card.

WT476- A tree is known...

For Arbor Day, the Ways to Use it challenge on Splitcoast Stampers was to make a card with a tree. I chose to make a mixed media card using a sentiment and tree from Diane's Daydream Designs set called HUG A TREE.  I also used BOUQUET OF DAISIES  I started by physically layering 3 scrap pieces of dp with a page from an encyclopedia. I then scanned them into my computer I then layered the digital tree and flowers and sentiment and printed it. I then ink spray smashed it with blues and greens. I painted the tree and leaves with watercolors. I then used plastic wrap and white paint to add some texture to the page. I also used white paint and bubblewrap. I then painted the daisies with white paint. I used the ends of the paint brush to put random dots. I also splattered the white paint with a toothbrush. I took a black ink pen and outlined the tree and the daisies. Added burlap ribbon and a strip of white cardstock punched with SU border punch. I stapled the burlap and added 4 little white brads.  I am going to share this card with the WORD ART WEDNESDAY challenge.

Rustic - poppies and burlap

This card started out at least inspired by the Splitcoast Stampers Sketch 485.
The top panel should have been smaller, but I had so much fun coloring it, when it came time to cut it down to size, I just couldn't do it. I scanned the KI dp with the numbers (used for one of the long panels) I then layered a page from my encyclopedia, and digital poppies and sentiment from Diane' Daydream Designs POPPIES FOR YOU set. I water colored with markers, I added highlights and shadows with prisma colored pencils. I took a black ink pen to outline the poppies. I did burned glue technique in the centers of the flowers. I took white acrylic paint and a toothbrush to add splatters. I substituted burlap ribbon as the skinny horizontal panel. Brads, staples, button and twine finished it off. I am going to be sharing this card with Word Art Wednesday 129.

Mixed media card for color challenge CC475

For the Splitcoast Stampers Color Challenge, I decided to make a mixed media card. These colors were extremely difficult for me. It took me most of the day to finish. I kept adding and adding and adding until I liked how it turned out. I made the little twine flower yesterday and wanted to use it on today's card but I really struggled how to put it on the card without covering up the fun mixed media panel. I ended up making an easel card. I made the stoppers for the easel with hot glue drops.

I went from my usual style and tried to do a CAS card. I stamped the lantern on a page from an encyclopedia. I watercolored it with red and used a gold marker to add trim. I used the same gold marker to go around the edges of the sentiment and the card. I also put gold dots in 2 of the corner. Check out what the Design Team did with this set.
