Growing in Unity Day 2 - Earth has music

Welcome to Day two of my sharing for Growing in Unity.
I started today's project with a piece of cardstock that I mono printed using my gel plate. I loved the colors and the texture (from bubble wrap).

I used black stazon ink and:

Allow Yourself

I painted the flower side and the butterfly's dots with white acrylic paint.

Then I watercolored the butterfly side. I also started watercoloring the flowers with a bit of pale yellow.

How it looked when I had finished watercoloring the flowers. I added some more yellow, red and peach watercoloring.

The watercoloring left the butterfly feeling a little washed out, so I took a black ink pen and went over the lines. I added a white highlight to the butterfly's body with a white gel pen.

I then masked the butterfly

I stamped the music score from
Unity Stamp
Forget the Past {smak 11/16}

I stamped the sentiment from this kit, but it didn't fit. I cut each word and placed them around the edge of the butterfly. I took my black ink pen and went around the squares. I think cutting the sentiment up goes with the mixed media feel of the card.

I hope that you enjoyed today's project. Come back tomorrow for more. Don't forget to leave a comment to have a chance to win the grab bag of stamps prize.

Growing in Unity Day 1- Vintage Birthday Card

Hello. I am honored to have the chance to share with you for Growing in Unity this week.  One of my new passions is making gel prints to use with my stamping. Who needs to buy fancy paper when you can make your own? All my projects this week feature paper I printed using my gel plate.

What I especially liked about this print besides the colors was the white streaks. I exaggerated the white streaks with a white gel pen.

My stamping friend Lee Ann Barrett and I got to meet in real life this summer.
Image may contain: Lee Ann Barrett and MariLynn DeGroot, people smiling, people standing and indoor
She gave me this stamp:
Notice Moments {lol 8/18}
I used black stazon ink and stamped it on to my paper.

I made a mask out of typing paper.

I stamped an old Unity stamp called:
Classified Newsprint
Newprintstamp

I stamped it randomly. Just to add some interest to the background.

I masked it again and stamped the music score from
Forget the Past {smak 11/16}

I wanted some dimension to the flower so I stamped the flower several times on some scrap cardstock and watercolored them and fussy cut them out. (I stamped 3 but only used 2. One for the bottom layer and the second as the layer on the flower.)

I used a white gel pen to highlight the numbers on the clock. I glued the first layer of the flower down.

I water colored the leaves and stem of the flower. I added the second layer of the flower and I added gold sand glitter to the center of the flower.

Of course I had to use my favorite Unity stamp.
Here Today, Here Tomorrow.
Here today, Here tomorrow
This was the first Unity stamp I got and probably has seen the most ink of any of my Unity Stamps.
I stamped it 3 times. I water colored them and fussy cut them out. One butterfly I kept whole. The other 2 I just cut the left side out and shaped and layered them to make it look like the butterfly had just landed. I stamped "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" in corner. It came in a grab bag of Unity stamps so I don't know what set it was from. If you know, let me know in the comments. I used the white gel pen to add more highlights on the sentiment.

Because this card had a vintage feel I decided to distress the edges with my scissors. I tilted the panel and place black cardstock behind it.

I decided to put these panels on an easel card base. I used a heart shaped rhinestone as the stopper.

One more thing, I splattered this card with copper paint and added a rhinestone to the hands of the clock.

I hope you enjoyed my project for Day 1. Come back each day this week to see more projects using Unity stamps.

3rd lunar card

Well after having success with my two love you to the moon and back mixed media cards, I decided to go a totally different direction with my third card. I had to laugh because while I was making this card I was  looking at facebook while certain elements of the card dried. It was there that I read a post by someone who said, I took a mono print and it took me 2 hrs to make this card. At that point I was already several hours into making my card. All said I think this card took about 8 hrs.  I started the card  last night by drawing a circle on a piece of  a cereal box. I drew the face and cut the  moon out and covered it with a layer of tacky glue. Just as the glue was starting to dry I took a ball stylus and poked holes in the glue to add the crater texture.

If you look closely you can see the glue covered moon. I die cut some stars, the scalloped oval and the lattice with my cuttle  bug. (I had a blue die cut arrow that I thought I might use but ended up not finding a place for it.) I die cut a piece of brayer cleaning print.

The brayer cleaning print (I am going to start calling them a bcp) that I cut up. What I liked about this BCP was the colors and texture.

The other day I bought a "craft" box which was mostly paint and glitter but in the box was a bag of foil. Not having a laminating machine I wondered if I would ever use the foil. I decided to try and transfer the foil to the cereal box pieces using Aleene's tacky glue. It did transfer the foil, but there were parts where it didn't stick. That was fine with me because I was already thinking of distressing them.
I really like how the moon turned out. The texture of the glue craters with the foil looked really cool.

I glued 4 of the stars to a piece of embroidery floss that I painted black and rubbed gold metallic rub. I embossed the BCP and rubbed gold metallic rub on it. I added cheesecloth and faux scrabble tiles.

The oval frame I painted black, embossed with script embossing folder and added metallic rub and glued the moon stars and trellis. I added 2  rhinestone stars.

This card is an easel style card. I used one of the little die cut stars to be the "stopper."

Second love you to the moon card

I liked my first love you to the moon and back card for this week's mix-ability challenge celebrating Apollo 11. But I wanted to see if I could make another one, having the hand lettered sentiment looking like I had pictured it in my head.
Here is the brayer cleaning paper I started with.

One thing I did differently on this card. I didn't mask the base. I covered the whole base with teal, purple and black water color paint.

I traced the circle with a pencil and painted it with white acrylic. I also added white and black splatters.

Next I used gray and gray/blue water color paint to paint the shadows and used a white gel pen to make the craters.

/Added some rhinestone stars and some gel pen stars and wrote the sentiment. It is better than the first one but still needed some work. I should have started just a little bit to the left so I would have had room to get the sentiment in without having to dip down. as much as I did.

First Love you to the Moon and Back Card

In honor of 50 years since the moon landing the Mix-ability challenge this week is to make a mixed media project with space in mind.
There are some really cute outer space stamp sets. This one by Sweet n Sassy
called OVER THE MOON is a new release that I think is just adorable.
I tried to think of any sets I might own and kept coming to a blank. So I decided to just paint the moon.
The other day I did some monoprints with leaves. When I monoprint, I have "cleaning" my brayer prints that I sometimes think are even more interesting than the print I was trying to make. I had tried painting the moon on just plain cardstock but it was just too much paint and it warped really badly So I took one of my brayer cleaning print to make my card. I picked this one because of the blue and purple colors.

I cut a circle out of a post it note to mask my moon.

I took black, blue and dark purple to water color over the print to make the sky darker. I also splattered the "sky" with black and white paint.

I took white acrylic paint and painted in the circle where the post it note had masked. I then took gray and blue/gray water color to add the shadows of the moon. Then I made craters on the moon with white gel pen. So I could get as close to real life, I googled photos of the moon.  I also added some gel pen stars.

It was here that I made a mistake. I then tried to hand letter the sentiment. and I really didn't like  how it turned out, but I really liked the moon. I was really sad at first. Then I decided to take a scrap of another piece of brayer cleaning print and I wrote the sentiment again and cut it up and glued it over the "mistake"

I am sharing this card with Words 2 Craft by # 67 challenge

Here it is with it's fixed sentiment. I glued it to a white base and added 3 little rhinestone stars.

I think it was a happy mistake because I really like how it turned out. What do you think?
