When I saw the little owl, I knew I wanted to make a bookmark. I watercolored my owl to try and make the look of feathers. The background of my bookmark was made using faux barn board technique. I embossed it with my script folder and cuttlebug. I added gold paint over the raised areas. I also added copper inka gold with a  stencil

Come back tomorrow for more creativity.

A recipe for a fun time

My friend Pam and I were chatting today. I thought it would be fun to do a recipe challenge.
We each picked 2 ingredients to go into our recipe. I picked BUTTERFLIES and PEARLS. She picked the color TEAL and LACE.
The result of this recipe is this card.

I used the Mojo 369 for my card.
I started with I took a piece of teal cardstock. I embossed it with my french script embossing folder and my cuttlebug. I then covered that teal cardstock with glue encyclopedia scraps and  white paint. I wanted it to dry quickly so I put it on a foil lined cookie sheet and I put it in my oven. It dried in 2 mins. I was very happy with the results. I might have to try it again. I let it cool and I used a stencil and copper inka gold. I also took gold paint and went over the embossed script. I cut it into thirds. I wanted to have my pearls for my butterfly trails. I only had straight pearl strips. So I cut each pearl apart and using tweezers and put them down one at a time.

Thinking of you today - decorative clip

The MPC design team decided to make cards to fight cancer. I really didn't know what I was going to make. I knew I wanted to do roses and paper doily but that was all I had in my mind for over a week. Then today I saw this post on making DECORATIVE CLIPS
I then decided to make a clip with a banner and a paper ribbon with my sentiments. I added a butterfly and pearls. I sewed the pink floral dp to my base, added a paper doily, die cut leaves, pearls and quilled roses.

There is a contrast of beauty and pain in the elements on my card. The rose bush has beautiful flowers, but it also has thorns. Pearls shine and catch the light with their beautiful finish, but are created when sand gets into the oyster's shell. The butterfly, with its graceful flight and beautiful colors, starts as a caterpillar who has to be held captive in a tight cocoon and totally change it's shape and form.  To me they all show hope that even cancer is ugly and painful, there can still be beauty, and that God can use it for his glory.

What I like about this card is that you can take the clip off and you can use it as a book mark.

Casing a friend

There is a challenge on Splitcoast Stampers where they feature a stamper's gallery and players are encouraged to go to the gallery and pick a card and CASE that card. I seldom play because it is on a Sunday, and Sunday's are pretty busy with church. I was talking with my good friend Pam and although we have been members of Splitcoast Stampers for many years neither one of us had ever been chosen to be a featured stamper. So we decided to Feature Eachother's galleries. I went into her gallery and it was like a time machine because the two of us have chatted about many of the cards that she created. I picked two cards and combined elements of the two on my card.  I picked

This Card by my friend Pam LOVE IS LIKE A BUTTERFLY
and
This card by my friend Pam. ...TOUCH THE SKY

My friend is so much better at a style called CAS. Clean and Simple.  It is a style I really struggle with... I almost had to sit on my hands to not add anymore layers or embellishments to this card.

I had started the day kinda feeling sad that I hadn't been "picked"...I think it goes back to childhood. Remember when teams were picked to play games...? Well, I was frequently picked last or not at all. But as I sat here thinking today, I decided that I am much more blessed to have good friends who support my art, then getting recognition. So thank you dear friends for your support. Your kind comments mean so very much to me.

Pin up mixed media profile- thankfulness

The other day I watched this video by my crafting friend Eniat  Kessler.
She made a mixed media canvas using her profile. Today when I saw the mixed media challenge was to use a magazine silhouette to make a mask, I decide to use my own profile to make my project. I had my husband take my photo because it was difficult to get a profile selfie.

I printed my photo and cut it out to make my mask. I held the mask in place with painters tape. I used my SU itty bitty backgrounds stamp and white paint to go over the purple. I sprayed gold shimmer over the paper. When it dried I pulled up the mask. I added quilled roses made of encyclopedia pages. I also added pearls and baby's breath. I used one of my all time favorite butterflies. It was by my stamping friend Laura, LAYERS OF COLOR. I stamped it on white cardstock and cut it out and shaped it. The white was too stark so I sprayed it with some of the gold shimmer spray.I added some musical stickers. They are from FAB SCRAPS -Victoria Clear Stickers. I used an alphabet set to stamp the things that are important to me... God, Family, Friends, Music, Art... I thought afterwards that I should have added food and my computer but it was too late. I added gold webbing lace and pearl stick pins in the right corners. I added pewter brads in the corners. I also added a strip of lace.
