I do not celebrate Halloween because of personal beliefs. Because of that I don't make Halloween cards or projects, so a set like today's is a challenge for me. I looked at this set for quite awhile and then I decided on using this spider. Once I had a person in mind to give it to, the card just kind of fell together. I made this card for my dear friend Katie. She made a video last year that went viral about life with her 4 little boys.
A couple of weeks ago, one of her boys came and told her about his new pet. He had named it and everything. It was a giant, and I do mean giant, spider that was hanging outside of their home. She shared that story on facebook and their were several people who were giving advice on how to get rid of him... mostly by doing him in ( and by him, I mean the spider) But she said how could she do that when her son had already named the spider. I asked her about the spider this weekend when we were doing worship team together at church, and she assured me that the spider was still there and doing well, but she was hoping that "cold weather" might solve the problem. She has a great sense of humor, as you can see from her video. I thought it would be fun to make her a spider card. On the inside I used the sentiment from Mark's Finest Papers set called FAMILY that says "What a Woman". That is how I feel about my friend. She is an amazing mom and I hope when she sees this, it makes her smile and laugh. I stamped the spider on to a strip of dp left over from when I was making my balloon card for yesterday. I then layered that strip over a piece of black cardstock and more of the same dp. I like how it smudged in the right hand corner. I used a black ink pen to draw the web. I colored him in red because I thought a "pop" of red would make him stand out. I used my new spellbinders garden gate die to make the fence at the bottom. It was a very CAS card for me. I really like how it turned out.
Check out what the rest of the design team has done with this set.

Come on back tomorrow for more creativity.
Oh MariLynn I love this - did you know that Australia has a Red Back spider that is extremely toxic?? (and it is related to our only toxic spider!
ReplyDeleteI do not 'celebrate' Halloween, so it is good to see how you used the set.
Blessings

Marilynn, I love the twist you took on this set - your card is very fun and your friend will LOVE it! She is a wonderful Mom! It is hard to kill a big spider though - we kept one on our backporch in the window for a long time. It was about as big as a fist and all kinds of pretty colors. We didn't go out that door on the porch the whole time it was out there and it was Fall and we wanted too! Great card and your friend has a wonderful sense of humor! BTW - I don't remember knowing you were from Albuquerque - another thing we have in common. Hugz!
ReplyDeleteI love your card and the story that accompanies it. I too made a spider card for my nephew who has recently been doing some acrobatics and doing a spider curled up in his web antic.
ReplyDeleteOh!! MariLynn, I LOVED the video!!! How cute! What a Woman, is RIGHT!!!! Great voice too! :) I LOVE your spider card!!!! I have had a bit of a time myself working around the traditional Halloween card. I am calling them FALL cards, giggle! Your spider card is STUNNING!!!! Put it on SCS and I am going to favorite it! :)
ReplyDeleteCute card. Cute story. I had one that named everything including rocks and the grass.
ReplyDeleteMarilynn- Even though you don't do Halloween, this spider card is sufficiently creepy- hahaha
ReplyDeleteI love your spooky card. I am so amazed at how you took a little spider and built such a great card around it.
ReplyDeleteYour card is awesome and VERY spooky! Not being a spider fan - I admire your friend's spunk and courage in leaving the spider as is!
ReplyDeleteLove this card and the pop of red.
ReplyDeleteLove your card and your story. BUT you left the most important part out of the story -- what's the spider's name?
ReplyDeleteHad to stop in and tell you how much I love this card. It's so artistic! TFS! kReN, MFP DT
