red journal pages with coffee cup

Today is the day for the Spring coffee lovers bloghop, I know it is going to be as much fun as the others and filled with so many wonderful coffee projects.

I made some little mini journal pages with red mulberry paper found HERE.

I did the art journal similarly to the mini journal pages. However I started by painting the background with black acrylic paint. Then I added the mulberry ribbon. In between the layers of mulberry ribbon, I added gold thread. I also added tissue paper butterflies and coffee cup and clocks. When the pages were done I added dots made with white acrylic paint in the corners and on the butterflies.

This is for the Mixed Media Mojo February Challenge. Red with wings
I used the coffee cup from MFP set called Java Time.

red with wings

The challenge for Mixed Media Mojo Challenge for the month of February is to make a project with red and with wings. I made two mini journal pages with red and butterflies. I also did a two page spread in my art journal.

The red on the background was made with red mulberry ribbon. I used shiny finish mod podge to adhere it to the cardstock. I layered it to get texture. I sprayed it with gold shimmer paint because the mulberry ribbon had little gold flecks in it. I thought the gold sprayed paint would look good with it. The butterflies were stamped with black stazon onto white tissue paper. I colored the tissue paper with markers and used more mod podge to adhere them to the journal. After they dried, I outlined them with a gold sharpie marker. The pages still felt like it needed something. So I masked the butterflies and stamped the newspaper print over the background.

Coffee time

Today is the day for the Spring coffee lovers bloghop, I know it is going to be as much fun as the others and filled with so many wonderful coffee projects.

I made these two pages in my art journal. I painted the background. I put shiny  mod podge over the background. I stamped a classified newsprint stamp . I also stamped coffee rings from the MFP set called JAVA TIME. I paper pieced the coffee cups from MFP set called OH BEANS. The coffee beans are also from the OH BEANS set. I added highlights to cups and beans with white acrylic paint. I made little scrabble tiles to spell out COFFEE TIME.

Coffee with my crafty sisters

Today is the day for the Spring coffee lovers bloghop, I know it is going to be as much fun as the others and filled with so many wonderful coffee projects.

While a cup of coffee is good, having it with
friends makes it better. I made some pages for my
mini art journal in honor of my crafting sisters from Mountain Plains Crafters.

I made this cup in honor of my friend Jennifer.
Can you see the steam? I made the steam by drawing with glue. The block background stamp and cup are from a MFP set called OH BEANS.

This cup of coffee was made in honor of my friend Terri. I used the sketch from Mojo 386   She is musical as well as artsy so I put a panel of sheet music.

This next card is in honor of my friend Pam. I used the splitcoaststampers sketch challenge SC529
but I flipped it on the side. This made me think of Pam, because she is always thinking outside the box. I did the glue steam on this journal page too.

This cup was made in honor of my friend Paula. She gave me some little tags at Christmas time. I used one of the little tags on this journal page. More glue steam.

This cup is in honor of my friend Sheryl. The colors in the splatter background and cup made me think of Colorado where she lives.

This cup was in honor of my friend Debra. She gave me this wonderful Classified newsprint stamp which has become my favorite mixed media stamp.

Joy-Music not a straight edge

Today is the day for the Spring coffee lovers bloghop, I know it is going to be as much fun as the others and filled with so many wonderful coffee projects.

The mixability challenge this week was to make a card or project with a decorative edge. When I decided to do my art journal, I knew that I was going to have to do a total of 4 pages  I did a random wavy edge. I used blue, green and turquoise acrylic paint to tie all the pages together. What is hard to see is on the JOY page there is cheesecloth embedded into the paint. I used mod podge to add it to the background. I sprayed the pages with gold shimmer paint as well. My thinking behind this layout was  Thinking about the little things that make me happy. Butterflies, music, cup of coffee, flowers, my favorite colors and reading. I punched a little heart out of the page with the decorative edge. I meant to leave a place on the left side so that both sides of the heart would tie together, but I kinda got carried away, so I had to add a punched out heart. I outlined it with a black marker to make it stand out. You can see a little music note peeking through the heart. I stamped a matching music note on the page so they would tie together. I used a gold marker to outline the wavy page to draw attention to its edges.

This is the second page with the decorative edge. I went with a music theme. I used the same paints to tie them together. You can see the little punched out heart showing through the heart window.

Musical Monarchs

The mixability challenge this week at splitcoaststampers.com is to make a card or project with an edge that isn't straight stamped the music staff flourish and cut around it. I made a little keyboard with word window punches. I added a strip of sheet music. I used it to cover the edge of the keyboard but also to contrast the wavy edge. I added pearls and two monarch butterflies. I stamped the butterflies. I colored them with markers and then mod podged them to make them shiny. I added white dots with acrylic paint. I finished it off with pearl and rhinestone flourishes.

Busy week

This has been a busy week and I didn't have time to upload every day, so here is what I have been up to this week.

Last week I shared my mini art journal. I picked two winners using a random number generator.
Angela and Harriet were the winners. I will be contacting them to get them the rings so they can make their own mini art journals.

Feb 14 - Inspired by my pastor's sermon encouraging us to put God first before any of our other relationships.

Feb 17 - Even with cold temperatures this week, I woke up to hear birds singing.

Feb 18 - MOJO 385

Feb 20 - Mix Media - MIX108

This week I started another art journal. It is a little bigger than the 2"x2 1/2" mini one. My son bought a grab bag of nerdy items and in the grab bag was this little book for drawing your own cartoons. When I saw it I was thinking it would be the right size for an art journal. I mentioned it to him and he right away said. "Mom, you can have it." Do I have a great kid or what?

These are what the pages look like before I added gesso.

My first page: Rise and Shine with the chickens.

Second and third pages : MIX108 brown paper bag collage.

And just because I am having fun journaling doesn't mean I'm not still making cards. I made this card, also for MIX108. Can you tell I was having fun with the brown paper bag collage?

Mini - Daily art journal

There seems to me to be a trend in the paper crafting world to do calendar journaling art. I first noticed it when my friend Lydia started her calendar. I really liked the idea of doing art everyday and I liked the idea of the small canvas of 2"x21/2" that the calendar rectangles provided. I almost went out and bought a calendar to do the journaling. but then I decided not to. Partly because I didn't want to spend the $ on a calendar and partly because I  have to do things my own way. I knew I had lots of white cardstock scraps. So I cut several into 2"x2 1/2"  rectangles. I punched holes at the top. Then I went and bought some key rings. Total cost for my journal $2.
I think my way of doing the journaling has several advantages.
#1. I don't have to mask off adjoining rectangles. I can get messy without worrying about yesterday's or tomorrow's rectangles.
#2. If I mess up I can always just start again. (A little harder when you have the calendar)
#3. If you miss a day of journaling on a calendar, the  BLANK rectangle is readily noticed. Unless you looked at each one on my journal, it would be a lot harder to notice a missing day.
#4. I have limited craft space, so if I had a calendar it would take up a lot more space than my little journal which can fit in my pocket.

I would love for you scroll through this post and look at what I've done so far. When I bought the key rings, I have extras. Leave a comment on this post and I'll pick 2 people to send key rings too so you can make a little art journal too.

February 8 ( more old stamps)
February 9 (I used one of my oldest SU stamps 1996. I found this stamp on a gravel road.)
