mixed media chicken card

I made this card for the SCS Sketch challenge SC460
I was talking to my friend Pam and she said she was thinking chicken wire so I suggested we use this Mark's Finest Papers set called FLAP MY WATTLES.  If you would like to see her card it is HERE.
On Saturday I cut all these 1/2 inch squares from scraps and I glued them to a white piece of cardstock. I thought it made a background with a country feel. The two vertical panels from the sketch are done with drywall tape and burlap. I tea bag stained the chicken wire panel. I printed chicken wire on the cardstock using my printer. I stamped the chickens on a page from the encyclopedia. I added little acrylic paint dots.

Technique lovers and color challenge

My first card was made yesterday for the SCS TLC453 flip down stack card. I used 2 MFP sets. I used HUM ALONG and I NEED A VACATION. I did embossed faux silk for the base of the card. On the bottom panel of the flip down part, I stamped the hibiscus that had the hummingbird on it. Since I didn't want to color just a little bit of him in, I painted him to look like the flower. You would have to look really closely to see him.

Since I already had these two sets out on my desk, when I looked at the color challenge for today, at SCS,  CC450,  I decided to try and use the same sets. I used the same embossed faux silk technique. I added burlap because my friend Pam encouraged me to use it on a card today. For this card I also watercolored, and tea bag dyed. I also used a Sharpie metallic pen to go around the edges and to color the brads to match.

I am thankful for family

Another bendy card. This one is for my mother in law. The sentiment says "I am thankful for family" in Dutch.
A lot of watercoloring and sewing on this card.

2 more pastor appreciation cards

Two more pastor appreciation cards done. This top card, I made yesterday for the SCS Color challenge CC449.
I had some more colored apples from yesterday so I decided to use them to make a second card. This second card  started as just white and black cardstock. I ink spray smashed the white cardstock with gray markers and then tea stained it. I dyed the paper yesterday trying to get the right color for the color challenge, but it was just a little bit too gray. Since it was still on my desk I decided to use it with the apples for today's SCS sketch challenge 459

A close up look of the apples.

Pastor Appreciation

I made this card for the worship pastor at our church. October is pastor appreciation month. I have a few more to make and I'm running out of month. I had some scraps on my desk the other day that I cut into little squares. I glued them to a piece of cardstock. I painted over them and then added crackle medium. I really like how that looked, so I tried it again with some fall colored scraps. Then yesterday the TLC452 challenge at SCS was to do an inlaid die cut. I don't have much in the way of die cuts so I took my inlaid piece of crackle scraps and I cut it by hand. I took the leaves from this digi set from Daydream Designs called FALL IS IN THE AIR I printed them on a piece of typing paper and cut them out to make a pattern for tracing around. I  printed the hymn Amazing Grace to have on the back. I also added the sentiments from Daydream Designs called HARVEST OF GRATITUDE

This photo shows the crackle on the inlaid leaf.
This is the card opened up and showing the center and right side panel.

This shows the card opened and the center and left side panel.
Now to get busy on the rest of the cards I need to make.

Garden gate bendy card

This is the photo that I picked for my inspiration this week. I love little white picket fences. This bendy card made me think of a garden gate.

Live, love, laugh bendy card

The SCS Ways To Use it challenge WT449 was to use chipboard on a card. I have had these 3 chipboard words for years. I don't usually use chipboard, so I never thought to use these until I was challenged to yesterday. I took them and covered them with ink spray smashed tissue paper. I then took my MFP Cracked hello stamp and stamped the crackle onto the letters. Then I hit a creative wall. I pulled out all kinds of designer papers and really struggled. I told my friend Pam that I had run out of creative ideas. She asked me to send her a photo of where I was. When I did she said I needed "stitching" "drywall tape" "burlap" and "butterflies". I was originally thinking of a masculine card, but Pam pointed out that I do girly cards better.
So I listened to my friend. This card took a lot of detours and finally came together. I just had to make another bendy card. I am so glad I Cheryl shared this addictive fold with me.

pop up butterflies

I made this card for today's sketch challenge at SCS. I used some of the scraps that I had left over from my bendy card. I decided to make the butterflies pop up on the inside.

Bendy card

My friend Cheryl had a really neat card that she shared on facebook. When I asked her about it she said she had a tutorial on her blog for BENDY CARDS.  It was a great tutorial and I had a lot of fun making this card. I went a little overboard with the dp.That is different for someone who hardly used dp at all. I went for a lacy look. I added 3 bows because my friend Cheryl is a bow master and I was thinking about her when making my card. I added roses, beads a key and lace but it still needed something... of course... butterflies. This is a sympathy card. for a friend of mine. I hope that this card comforts and cheers.

Faux Silk Fall card and Tutorial

I made this card using a faux silk technique  with my own twist. I started with a piece of white tissue paper.. I used black stazon ink to stamp  it with leaves from  Mark's Finest Papers set called Autumn Glory. So far it is very similar to the faux silk technique on SCS. How mine differs is I use ink spray smash technique to add color to my tissue paper. I use an acetate report folder that has been cut along one side and the bottom so that it opens like a book. I also used just plain Crayola  markers and a water bottle

After I added the blue-green color to the tissue paper. I added color to the leaves. (While the tissue paper is wet it will cling to the folder. It is very fragile so it is best to leave it clinging to the folder)  I scribble with fall colored crayola markers on the acetate folder beside the tissue paper. I wet a paint brush and use the marker ink to paint the leaves.

After the leaves have been painted it is time to glue the tissue paper to a more sturdy piece of paper. On the SCS tutorial, the tissue paper is glued to a plain white piece of cardstock. I like the look of words behind the tissue paper. I use a page from an old encyclopedia. You could use a page from an old book, old phone book, newspaper, or simply print words with a printer. The words don't really matter because it is hard to read them, but you get a glimpse of them under the tissue paper.  I covered the encyclopedia page with a glue stick (It looks kinda purple) then I put the tissue paper over it. At this time it is still on the acetate folder. After I put the tissue onto the glue then I peel away the folder.

After I have the tissue paper on the encyclopedia page, I run it through my cuttlebug. I use a script embossing folder. After I have it embossed I use gold acrylic paint to "antique" the faux silk. I put a small amount of paint onto a plastic lid and I use a napkin wrapped around my finger to wipe the paint over the faux silk. It really accents the raised parts. If some of it gets on the non raised parts that is ok. I kinda like it that way.

I hope that you enjoyed learning about my faux silk technique with a twist. I know my videos need some work, and hopefully with a little bit of time and experience they will get better.

Fall is my favorite time of year. I loved taking my kids to the apple orchards in the fall to pick apples, eat apple doughnuts and drink apple cider. There are so many wonderful flavors of apples. My two favorite varieties are Empire and Honey Crisp. What is your favorite? My two cards look like someone was busy picking apples. I wonder if they will be made into pies, sauce, or just washed and chilled. One of the new recipies I want to try this fall is individual apple pies where you bake the pie in the individual apples. Gotta love pintrest. I hope you had a great time with this montn's hop.
