This set is a lot of fun to work with. The part of the Mississippi river that I live by has a lot of lotus blossoms in late summer. I took this photo of the lotus blossoms last summer with 4 Canadian Geese.

The lotus blossoms that are on the Mississippi River near me are  cream colored lotuses. I decided to be a little wild, I don't know if there are lotus blossoms this color, but I made a card with lavender lotus blossoms. I chose the lavender color to match the rose petal paper I made. I was given a rose by a friend. I waited until the petals started to wilt and even dry out a little. I put the petals in a bowl with water to rehydrate them. Then I randomly placed them on a piece of white cardstock. I covered them with another piece of white cardstock making a rose petal sandwich that I ran through my cuttlebug. I stamped and masked the smaller lotus blossom and then stamped the bigger lotus over it to add some extra dimension.

Here are two more cards I made using this set.

Do you know the difference between a lotus blossom and a water lilly? Come back tomorrow and I will tell you.

  1. Three wonderful cards...each better than the one before. look forward to finding out the difference between lotus and water lilly.

  2. Beautiful, beautiful cards MariLynn - love all of them, and your rose petal paper is gorgeous!

  3. Such gorgeous cards and thanks for sharing your photo. Love the fact that a bit of that rose lives on.

  4. Oh MariLynn!!!!! What gorgeous cards!!!! I really can't say which one is my favorite! Beautiful work (as always0! TFS

  5. Three beautiful cards using basically the same layout -- but very different. I especially like the first one with the deep purple background. And BTW your question intrigued me -- so I looked it up and found out the difference! I did not know that.

  6. Your cards are all just gorgeous. The paper made with the rose petals look great.

  7. Beautiful work! Love the purple! It's my favorite color :)

  8. Very very pretty cards!!! Love the stitching you have added.

  9. Actually, I haven't a clue what the difference is! Normally, I would go figure it out myself, but I look forward to your lesson:) Your cards are all simply lovely!

  10. Gorgeous card. Mary L Schreiber

  11. How lucky you are to live near a place with water lilies. We have a water lily farm about 20 miles from us and we go there to take photos. They are quite beautiful. This set reminds me of those flowers. TFS!

  12. Now, how would I choose between the purple version and the pink card. That would be a hard call. I hope someone sends me some happy mail with this image!

  13. Beautiful cards. Lovely coloring.

  14. Absolutely stunning cards! It's easy to see that you enjoyed working with this set.

  15. Marilynn,

  18. These are lovely cards! I just had a feeling you would do gorgeous cards with the lotuses and the dragonflies! I'm intrigued about the difference between the two flowers, I can't wait!

  19. Wow wee these are so pretty!! I love the many layers. And the stitching on all of them are perfect. TFS AJ-

  20. Gorgeous cards-really like how you enhanced the first cards paper with rose petals! I'll be back tomorrow for the lily vs lotus distinctions!

  21. WOW!Awesome Cards!!!Beautiful coloring!!!

  22. All of your cards are beautiful but I really love the purple one! And I can't wait to find out the details on water lilies vs lotus blossoms!

  23. Awesome cards; love this set. Thanks for sharing

  24. Purple card is so pretty. Creative cards.

  25. Your cards are gorgeous! The purple one is very eye catching.

  26. OMG all your cards are absolutely gorgeous. I'm surprised by your picture of the Canadian geese and the lotus together. In Australia here lotus are only seen in the wild in the tropic and not alongside geese that live in the snow but magpie geese.
