2013 calendar

I made this desktop calendar using my Daydream Designs 2013 Desktop Calendar with Scriptures I have made desk top calendars for years. I usually spend a lot of time getting the calendars just right and when I saw this digi, I knew  I had to have it. It was so super easy to make the calendar part. I printed it, cut it apart and put paper clips to hold the pages together while I ran a bead of Aleene's tacky glue along the top edge. While it dried, which was about 20 mins. I made the back part. I took a gift box that was left over from Christmas I cut it to 12 1/2 inches by 7 1/2 inches.. I scored it at 1/2 inch, 5 1/2  inches, 11  inches and 12 1/2 inches. I then covered that with rose designer paper, white cardstock with border punch, pearls, hand quilled roses, ribbon and floral spray. I put glue on the back part of the calendar to attach it to the stand. I was going for a Victorian - vintage look.  If you were ever thinking about making a calendar, now would be a really good time because this calendar digi is only $3.95  . Check it out HERE.

My great find at Hobby Lobby

My friend Carmalitta, had a birthday on Saturday. I made her this birthday card. I used the sentiment from Mark's Finest Papers set called BRING ON THE SUN. I used the sketch from The Sweet Stop- SSS191. I got gift cards to Hobby Lobby for Christmas.(The perfect gift by the way- Thanks Mom, Kathy and Jimmy!) I got this Martha Stewart border punch and this pretty paper from K&Company. I had used most of my gift cards up and was waiting for my ride home. (2 hours of shopping at Hobby Lobby was too much for my kids, they decided to go to the mall instead of staying with me) I was standing by the floral section and as I was standing there I noticed a scraggly filler branch. It was not real so it didn't have the brittleness that I expected but was very supple. I knew right away that it would go great on my cards. I bought that branch. I cut it apart and put some of it on this card and some on the next card. I have enough left over for about 20 more cards. Not bad for $1.99 (It was 50% off).

Same papers used on this card because it was what I had laying out from the first card. I used the sentiment s from Mark's Finest Papers set called PUSSY WILLOWS. This card is going to my sister April.

Joyful new year!

As the year 2012 winds down, we look at the new year with hope and anticipation. We wish each other a
"Happy New Year!"  We all want to be happy don't we? Problem is that we tie our Happiness to our circumstances. If I had just a little more money I would be happy. If I had a better job, I would be happy. If I felt better, I would be happy.... the list could go on. If we do achieve happiness it doesn't last for long. Think of that perfect Christmas gift that you got your kids and now just a couple of days after Christmas, they aren't happy with it. What I am striving for this coming new year is JOY. Joy and happiness are the same thing aren't they? I don't think so.  Love JOY, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self control. these are the fruit of the Spirit.  Joy comes from having the Holy Spirit working in your life.  I heard it explained a long time ago that JOY stood for J-esus, O-thers, Y-ourself. and that if you put Jesus first in your life, then others then yourself, that you will have joy.

The paper on my card is a digital paper from myDaydream Designs called HAPPY NEW YEAR PAPER PACK. The little clock and baby new year is from myDaydream Designs called HAPPY NEW YEAR COLORED DIGI SET.

I used the Sweet Stop Sketch SSS190 for the layout. I used my sewing machine to sew the card together. I added a little green rhinestone to go at the 12 for midnight. The rest of the numbers have a little diamond rhinestone .

I wish you JOY for the new year to come!!!!

The special stamp set we have for you this month is:
" You've Got Style"

The dog in this set I assume is supposed to be a Scottish terrier, but when I saw it It made me think of my husband's dog when we met. He had a  miniature schnauzer named DUCHESS. Duchess was a one person dog and that one person was my husband. The two were very close. When we started dating, this dog was not happy. If I sat next to my husband she would growl at me and show her teeth and crowd her way in between us. If I even moved an inch she would try to snap at me.

Her is a picture of my husband and his dog DUCHESS taken over20 years ago in his back yard pool.

I think this card will be a Christmas card for my husband.

The special stamp set we have for you this month is:

" You've Got Style"

This is a really fun set to use. There are so many image that you can mix and match up with each other to create unique recipe cards. I decided to make an altered deli-turkey container. I took some fabric and cut a strip 2 inches wide and 30 inches long. I used my sewing machine to sew on fabric instead of cards. What a novel idea. I then ran a gathering stitch along the top. I also cut a strip of lace 2 1/2 inches wide  and  30 inches long. I ran a gathering stitch at the top of it too. I then gathered the lace and hot glued it around the container. After going around it once, I discarded the extra. I then hot glued the fabric over the lace. I took the same fabric and covered the piece of cardboard that had the turkey label. I then hot glued that fabric covered cardboard to the lid..

See how my recipe card fits inside? I took a piece of cardstock 4 1/4" x 6". I folded it in half and used a corner punch. I stamped the wisk, the bowl, rolling pin spoon image and the word "Recipe" on the outside.

I used my printer to print the recipe for the inside. This altered deli box is going to be a Christmas present for my daughter. She is moving out on her own. She was in a dorm last semester but she is moving into a house where she will be doing her own cooking. I thought I would give her a couple of recipes to get her started then I would send her one every week to let her know that I was thinking about her. The first recipe that I did was for "CAULDILLO" it is a Mexican stew. It is a favorite comfort food of my family on cold winter nights. Since it is a hot and spicy dish, I stamped the chili pepper from Mark's Finest Papers set called HOT & SPICY. . I colored it red, although the recipe actually calls for green chilies. I just liked how the red pepper looked!

Here is a photo of a bowl of  CAULDILLO. (This was what I was eating as I was finishing up this project. Aren't you jealous? It was super yummy!!!)

I have included the recipe  for CALDILLO below the list of my fellow designers. Go check out what they have created. Then go fix yourself a pot of Mexican stew.

The special stamp set we have for you this month is:

" You've Got Style"

This is probably my favorite set of all of this month's releases.
I have had a lot of fun with it.
For this card, I used a funky dp that had various shades of brown.
I matted it with gold wrapping paper. (We received an early Christmas gift
at work and my husband very carefully took the gold wrapping paper off,
folded it carefully and gave it to me. I love it! My son asked me how you gift wrap a gift of gift wrap?)
Doesn't it look so pretty here? I have it behind the sentiment too.

The coffee cups were stamped onto a piece of stiff cardstock and then cut them out.
. I then stamped them over and over onto
various  designer papers and paper pieced them onto the cut out cardstock.
I put paper springs behind them to make them have dimension. I tried to capture that
dimension in this photograph.
A close up of the coffee beans. I think the little white highlight really
makes coloring these beans fun. It was super easy I just drew a white line
on each bean and colored around it. Who knew coloring beans could be fun?

Here are two other cards I made last week using this same set.

This is the song that came to my mind when I first saw this set. I was listening it as I stamped this card. I was surprised to find out that my kids had never heard this song before. I know it is an oldie, but it is awesome...

What is great about Mark's Finest Papers sets is how well they work with eachother. I am showing you the ivy that is from the IVY & BLOSSOMS set that is being showcased today. I stamped it and water colored it. Then I masked it with a mask I made by stamping the ivy onto typing paper and cutting it out. I placed the mask over the ivy and stamped this brick wall from Mark's Finest Papers set called BRICK WALL MINI STAMP,  The butterfly and sentiment are from another Mark's Finest Papers set called. DAFFODIL GREETINGS.

This was a card that I made last week for the SCS Fussy cutting challenge I combined the ivy with the music score from Mark's Finest Papers set : JUST A NOTE.

Fussy Cutting Cards.

The Ways to use it challenge on SCS yesterday was to do "fussy" cutting WT405. I love cutting so I made two cards. The first one is a little crazy because I cut out around the ivy. (Very little cuts that took a long, time to do.) The ivy is from a new Mark's Finest Papers set that will be released during the hop this month. It is called "IVY & BLOSSOMS".
Here is a close up view of the crazy ivy cutting.
My second card was made using My Daydream Designs. I used the cardinal from Deck the Halls Digi set. I used the already colored version so all I had to do was print and cut. After I cut it out I shaped the branches so that they were dimensional. I punched some leaves to put on the branches. I'm not so crazy as to want to cut out all the pine needles.
Close up view of my cardinal cut out and shaped.

I am entering my cardinal card in the Kaboodle Doodle challenge to use red.
as well as the Created with love challenge to make a birthday card  with wings.

Merry Christmas snow

I needed another Christmas Card.

My husband was commenting the other day on how few Christmas cards I have done for a person who is always making cards.
The church is from a Mark's Finest Papers set called Christmas in the Country.
The sentiment is from a Mark's Finest Papers set called Poinsettia Blooms.
The colors are from SCS color challenge CC405
The sketch is from The Sweet Stop SSS188
I'm also entering this in Word Art Wednesday-57

I added glitter snow and styrofoam snow to my card. That made me want to share this wonderful song sung by Audrey Assad called Winter Snow.I was so blessed to get to hear her in concert this year.

OH Beans sneak peek.

This is for TLC407 which was to do paper mosaic. I did the mosaic on the coffee cups. The coffee cups and sentiment are a sneak peek at a new Mark's Finest Papers set called OH BEANS. The sketch was inspired by MOJO271. I just rotated the sketch.

Musical thank you notes

"Brown paper packages.. these are a few of my favorite things." That was the inspiration for the ways to use it challenge... WT404

My favorite things? I love this new Mark's Finest Papers called Just a Note because it is all music related. I love the color turquoise, I love quilled roses, pearls and sewing on my cards.

These cards were made with two very special people in mind. The first one, I wanted a fairly CAS card. It was made for my son's Jazz band director. First off anyone who has been given the gift to work with middle school children should get thank you notes all the time. This band director especially because Jazz band has to meet before school starts so he is up and dealing with middle schoolers who just woke up. As the mother of one of them, I know this can't be an easy task.

The second card is a little bit more my style. I embossed the background with my cuttlebug. I ran my versamark ink pad over the raised areas and added copper embossing powder. I used some quilled roses that I had made. The turquoise paper was left over from an earlier project this week.using My Daydream Designs Winter Chill Digi Paper. This second card was made for my son's other band teacher.
Here is a close up view. It showes how the double embossing looks.

The sketch that I used for both cards is from the Sweet Shop: SSS187

(Both teachers liked their cards.)

Whiter than Snow-man

This is my first attempt at a honeycomb quilled snowman. I quilled everything except his little black brad eyes, the thread hanger, and the little paper punched heart. This is for Mojo270. TLC406 Word art Wednesday 56  The beautiful paper is from: My Daydream Designs Winter Chill Digi Paper..  The little snowman is an ornament. I cut a slit in  the top of the card that lets the thread hanger go inside and he swings.. The sentiment is from the old hymn called HAVE THINE OWN WAY LORD. I love listening to Jim Reeves sing it. I'm so thankful for the ability to listen to recordings, because he had such a beautiful voice.

quilled angel

(This video is not mine, but one I saw on youtube.)

The ladies at my church had their annual Ladies Christmas Tea. Where we get together had great food, lots of laughs and we exchange ornaments for our trees. I made some quilled snowflakes and wanted to try to make a quilled angel. I saw this video and just knew I had to try it. It was so much fun to make I ended up making 2 angels to take to the tea party. I think I will be making more of these in the days to come.

As you all know November is the time to gear up for Christmas shopping. So many sales and crowds, well stick with us we have some great deals for your Holiday Shopping needs.

The special stamp set we have for you this month is:

"Winter Scenes"

This set is my favorite set this month. I love music and making cards with music, so this set had my name written all over it!! I have 3 samples to show you. On card took 3 hours to make, one took 1 hour and one took 15 mins. (You will have to guess which card is which.)

On my first card. I stamped the background sheet music onto cream dp. I tore around the edges,  cut it it into 3 strips and I cut the three strips into four squares. I then ink distressed each square and sewed them to a cream piece of cardstock. I then took a piece of dp with a flower on it and stamped the two little music notes on it. I also stamped the music notes next to the scripture. I added a tea stained doily, ribbon, pearl beads on gold wire, two brown brads and handmade quilled peace roses.  This is card for a friend who just started a new job. It is really stressful for her. I am hoping that this card will cheer her up.

For this card I picked a piece of dp that had a design that was at an angle. I masked the top and stamped the sheet music over it. I then stamped the greeting from Daffodil Greetings. I stamped the little music notes by the sentiment as well as along the side. I then added ribbon and the pearl stick pins.

My son said that this next one is his favorite of the three. I was going for a masculine look and I think I achieved that. The top three panels were paint chip samples that someone gave me with a bag of scraps. They were kinda small and I wasn't sure if I would ever use them. I had the striped dp on my desk and they matched pretty close to the paint chips. The paint chips were for a granite paint. They kinda remind me of sand paper. There is a gritty texture, and it has a little sparkle to it.

So did you guess which card was which? The first one took 3 hours the second one 15 mins and the last one 1 hour,

I hope you have enjoyed hopping with us this week.
